I have handled both and be it a long time since I have held both but I have recently come across a good deal on both of these knives and just want to know what you guys think of both of these guys.

Personally, I like the Rift overall a little more. The G10 handles don't seem to rip at your pocket as bad as a the alum in the Presidio. Also, I just seem to like the blade more on the Rift.

But, check out the Presidio Ultra, It's a light weight version with a hollow ground 440C blade.

I would do the presidio myself. I had the rift and carried it for a while, but after my sebenza and a couple other arrived, I let the rift go. I still would like to get the presidio though. I had a mini auto presidio, and could not really get into it. Bigger is better in this case:D

I have no idea what anybody sees in the Rift. It looks like a wider 940 and why would anyone want that? Plus the selection of G10 colors they used is horrible.

I would go with the 520.

Yeah I am leaning towards the Presidio but I am going to have to run down to the local gun range I think that they carry both of these knives there.

I own both but prefer the 520. Will probably pickup one of the 522 and 527 models too. The Rift is a great knife but find it interesting after much griping about the charcoal scales I've noticed BM now has a 950-1 out for '09 with black scales being the only difference.

In this case I would like to see Benchmade offer replacement scales to customers already with the original 950's. I always thought they looked better in solid black G-10.

But heck, save the trouble. Get a 940 and a 520 and skip the Rift altogether.

It's kind of a tough call, IMHO. Personally, I tend to not like aluminum handled knives, because they tend to show wear much quicker/easier than G-10 scaled knives.

The Rift is a little lighter, a little shorter (Closed), with a little longer blade (& the blade's beefier).

The Presidio's handle might be grippier & more comfortable (The shape), & some people like a larger handle & more weight.

Admittedly, the different in weight & even blade/handle lengths aren't that big of a difference between the 2. In the looks department, that's too subjective. I'm sure there's plenty of people who like the looks of one over the other.

In the end, I think it boils down to comfort (520) or durability/wear (950). Personally, I've had the 950 & traded it, but I'm hoping to pick up an axis-auto (5300).

Good luck on whatever you choose.

Kind of depends on what your use will be. I've got the Rift and absolutely LOVE IT. Best knife I've had in years. Perfect for my daily use.

Guys thank you for all of your info and I have decided to go with the BM 913D2 in the spear point partly because it's AO and and it has D2 and also it had titanium, I just ordered it about a minute ago.
