Omg! So I got water on my bone collector axis and it INSTANTLY lost all its smoothness like it's rusty. Re oiled and nothing still. WTF!? How do I fix it? I don't even get what the problem is. I don't want to take it apart if I can help it.

Too much oil, or the wrong kind, can attract dust, silica, or whatever and hold it places it shouldn't be.

I'd degrease it and redo with a lubricant that won't sit heavy, something like Breakfree CLP.

Sounds like the water carried in a little particle of something (sand, dirt, etc). You may be able to work it out by opening and closing + oil but it would be easiest to take it apart.... You could try loosening the pivot all the way, so that you can get a gap on either side of the blade then flush it with more water or oil, then re-oil.

Haven't taken apart a benchmade before. Anything very hard to put together cuz the axis lock? That's the only reason I haven't already.

Got home from work and figured I'd try the loose pivot flush out before disassembly. Success! Thanks to all for your contributions! Yeaaah! Man I'm a happy camper now!

Nice! Now if only I could fix the tip my coworker bent trying to unlock a door... I should have asked what he was going to do with it :(

Easy fix.

Tell him he owes you thirty bucks for reblading and spa treatment in Oregon for messing up your knife doing something stupid

Maybe i'll throw on some light jazz, light some candles all around me, burn some incense, and start the sharpening ritual.

The spa does sound nice though!
