anyone take a look at both? the lucky one is a bit smaller, but has carbon fibre and s35vn. the proper looks a bit better and is slightly bigger.

You might want to consider the Lionsteel Roundhead too. :) (It would be my pick if I were in the market for a modern traditional)
Between the Benchmade and CS i would get a BM Proper with Micarta and Clippoint.

Even with my dislike of Cold Steel, I'd get a Lucky One (or whatever the 2 blade one is called) in a heartbeat if only they didn't put a damn inset pocket clip on it.

While I have neither, I can tell you that the Proper is more than "slightly" bigger. The Lucky One is 3.25" closed, and that's quite small for a folding knife. That's why it's described as a "pen knife", and appropriately so. The Proper, however, is a much more substantial knife. Full 4 finger grip, much thicker and heavier.

Yeah agreed 100%, but as a floating pocket knife I'd still take it over the massive Proper. If I get one I'll toss the clip and file the slot smoothe.

The Lucky One is new to me, CS is getting close to nailing a classic slipjoint design IMO.

I don't own either but have been seriously considering a Proper. This is the first time I've seen the CS, and I must say I really like it.

I own the original CS Lucky with two blades and really enjoy it. That being said I like the looks of the Proper. I voted CS due to the fact I have an idea what it feels like in hand.

Proper because I dislike the odd handle shape on the CS. Disclaimer: Have not handled the CS; only going off of pics.

I have a Lucky with the two blades. I really like it. There aren't enough "traditional" slipjoints with a pocket clip. I know some will say that makes them not traditional, but I like knives with a pocket clip.

Would love to see a side by side shot if anyone has one.

I think the weird handle shape in the lucky comes from them reusing the CF molds for the standard lucky win two blades.

I don't own either, but voted Lucky based on size and materials. However, I had not studied either closely enough to notice the saber grind. That should be a no no on a small blade.

To be honest if Cold Steel didn’t put “Lucky One” on the blade, I would consider getting one but that pretty much ruined it for me. Part of the reason is I think it makes the knife look generic.

I don't see what the deal is with the whole "Benchmade proper is yooodge" line of thinking that pops up in this thread. At not even 4" closed, and a blade of not even 3." It's not even as long as a Spyderco Delica, which is not exactly large. Maybe it's just me. I carry a full sized trapper much of the time, and don't find it the least bit excessive.

I'd go with the Benchmade. Made in USA, no billboard on the blade, I prefer a fuller grip on a knife, I prefer micarta, holds value better for resale if needed, I am a cheap slut for sheepsfoot blades.

Oohhhh....the Cold Steel what a cutie knife with a it-zee bit-zee blade and handle just wants to be held tight in your hand and immediately disappears.......

Now the Benchmade a Proper cross of sodbuster-esq and utility
