Hopefuly someone will be able to help me out. I realy like the benchmade 940 osborne, but want the black blade with no srations. Unfortunately, benchmade discontinued the 942, which is exactly what I want. The closest thing they have to what I am looking for now is the model 13940BK harley davidson knife. now the knife is exactly what I want ( black handels and black plain edge blade) except for the fact that it has harley davidson writen all over it. My question is how are the words and logos put on the blade and handel? are they just painted on or laser etched or what? If they are just painted on I might be willing to order it and just hope it wears off in my pocket, or if I was feeling realy gutsy, I might try to take a razor blade and try to scrape it off. But if its on there better than just paint, I might just go with the regular 940. Any one have one of these or know a little more thechnical data about benchmade that can help me out?

On a side note, I dont know what benchmades aversion is to black coated blades with no serations.

Thanks for the link, ( i didnt even know they made the 940 with a clip point) but I do want the reverse tanto. I just like the way it looks.

Depending on how much you're willing to spend you can buy both a 940 and 943 and then swap the scales from the 943 to the 940. You could then try to sell the 943 innards with the 940 scales. Lot of money, depending on if you can sell the remaining parts and for how much, but it should get you exactly what you want. I believe I saw a youtube video of someone who had done it.

As to your original question I don't know anything about how the Harley Davidson markings are put on the knife you are considering.

Interesting, I hadnt thought about doing a parts swap. I might have to look into that.

Are you sure you want the black coated blade? I have a BM940BK, which I had bought from knifecenter because they were out of stock of the satin blades, and I have to say I like my regular BM940 better. The satin blade seems to hide any scratches. If you do want one a google search for a BM940BK seems to show some avalable.

Lots of good advise already given all I can add is ht link posted above the seller is only asking 35 bucks for the black scales why not buy a regular 940 and then buy the black scales from the forum member selling them and swap the scales out and you can either save or sale your green scales that come with the 940 and then you will have a 942... Good luck with your decision the 94X series knifes are among my favorite benchmades..
