Benchmade Red Line, HK & HD series knives. What do you think?

Some of my favorite folding knives are the Benchmade Red Line and HK knives. In particular the HK Ascender, Monochrome and recently the HK Conspiracy. With the Ascender the F&F is very good. When you start to open the blade it fly's out as if it were spring assisted. Very smooth with solid lock up. Same with the others.

I've found the 9CR13COMOV steel to be good enough. It takes a very good edge, holds it fairly well and it's very corrosion resistant. Not to mention they are a very good value and very reasonably priced.

I haven't read very much about theses knives and don't see them come up often except the occasional Pika. I was just wondering what others thought?

Do you own any Benchmade Red Line, HK or HD knives and what do you think of them?

Thanks.

I only have two specimens from Benchmade's disco'd Red Class: a titanium Pika 2 and a ti Mini Pika 2. I bought 'em both NIB on sale for a song, but I have to admit, they're not bad! I like the mini better. Anyone know who is/was the OEM?

Only original Red Line I have left is the Monochrome that a friend gave me recently. Had the HK version also and it was just as good.

Like I said I really like them but you really don't hear much about them. I guess they're not all that popular or well known.

Well, I suppose a lot of folks really don't want to get into the whole 'manufactured overseas' issue. It is a very well-known topic, and it can bring out the worst in people--especially knife-enthusiasts... :(

On the subject of the Benchmade Red Class, I was fairly impressed by my specimens. Good overall fit & finish: clean jimping, nice blade-centring, smooth deployment, no burrs anywhere, excellent blade-grind and factory edge. Very decent for an affordable folder, and even impressive for the price-point. If my experience is any indication of the bigger picture, I think Benchmade did a good job in choosing an overseas manufacturer to produce their economy lines--bold statement from someone only owning two, though... :o

All the top production companies offer models made overseas like the Spyderco value folders ie: Resilience, Tenacious and Persistence. So I don't know if that's it? It might be, I'm guessing at this point they just aren't as popular.

Of the one's I've had they were great values and well worth the price. I really like the Ascenders in particular. Great blades!

Thanks for taking the time to give your input.
