Benchmade Refurbish?

New to Benchmade here and have a couple of questions.

I picked up an Elishewitz custom Stryker recently and after doing some research I had to pick up the BM counterpart, the 910D2. I'm happy with what BM did with the knife but not so happy about the misrepresented condition. Good ol' auction site, but that's another subject for W&C.
What do I need to do to get it back to reasonably good shape? It's got some chipping on the blade and needs new hardware. I see BM has a blade replacement option and would like to have a new blade installed (Maybe polished?) along with the shabby looking hardware and clip. What is the extent of their service? How do I go about getting the proper amount of money to them for these services? Or do they just bill me?
Figured you guys would have the answers to my newb questions.
Thanks!

And a picture of the Strykers.

That custom is sweet!
When you fill out the warranty form you write in your credit card information. Ask that they email you with the total charge. They don't usually do blade replacements for discontinued knives but it can't hurt to ask, maybe they have one laying around. Specify that you'd like the chips sharpened out and the hardware and clip replaced.
I've used their warranty service twice and have been very impressed.

I've had them do some work on my BMs before, but it's been a while. Your best bet is to contact BM directly. Their company web site will have contact info on it. They'll need the knife, of course. They probably won't be able to give you a price until they hold the knife and see what it needs and what they can do. At that point, they'll probably get back to you with the cost to get your OK and method of payment. If the blade chipping isn't bad, they may be able to sharpen it out.

As far as paying, I've used both check and CC before in dealing with them.

Thanks Steve. That's what I was looking for on the payment info. Just didn't see it on the PDF on my wee old laptop.
And yes, the custom Stryker is sweet. I contacted Allen to ask about its history and he was more than happy to fill me in with the details but didn't tell me exactly what the handle material is made from. Just said it is a laminate which makes sense... Very unique. The knife was made in the late 90's. All titanium liners and hardware.
And from the condition, it has been a safe queen all of its life.

I'm hoping there is a new D2 blade laying around but taking the chips out is a priority. They're small but things like that bug me.
Thanks for the replies.

They won't be able to replace the blade as it's long discontinued and extra blades are no longer in stock.
Sharpen chips out, yes
New clip, screws or other parts (if available), yes
Clean the knife, yes
Polishing the blade, no

The fastest, easiest, and clearest way to have all your questions answered quickly is to call them, don't email. 800-800-7427 and ask for Customer Service.

They will tell you on the spot what they can and can't do. I've lucked out and spoke to a tech once that just happened to have a spare blade in his bin for a certain knife that I didn't expect to be available.

I'm pretty sure the Stryker blades are long gone but there's plenty they can do to spruce up an old knife.

I recently sent in my original AFCK, I've had this knife for 15-16 years and it's probably 18 years old.

They replaced all the hardware, this includes all the screws including the pivot and stop pin, included a replacement clip that was very close to the original, and replaced the back spacer with Barrel Spacers. Awesome! The result was my old knife now looks almost new. I was extremely pleased. This was all done under warranty and I was not charged anything!

Like I said, the best thing to do is call and ask to speak to CS. This way you will know for sure and right away what they can and can't do and the possible charges involved, if they even charge you.

Best of luck!

ETA: Although the lock up on my AFCK was still pretty sound considering all these years of carry and use when I got it back from BM there was noticeable improvement in the lock up! I'm not sure what they did (Perhaps the new stop pin) but this was also another unexpected, very welcome surprise!

Bemchmade CS really can't be beat!

Barman,

I forgot to ask, could you post a pic of the blade you are talking about as far as the chips?

Thanks.
I filled out the warranty with everything I could see that needs attention and told them to contact me with a total. Leaving it up to them as far as what they have available and what services can be accomplished. I'm sure they'll do everything they can to bring it up to snuff.
I've heard nothing but good about BM service and am confident they'll keep up the good work here.
It's all boxed up and ready to go.

Barman,

I forgot to ask, could you post a pic of the blade you are talking about as far as the chips?

Now it's sealed in the box.
The chips were really small, that's why I'm sure they can sharpen them out. I could feel them while sharpening on the ceramic and see them held up to the light.
No big deal, just would have been nice if ALL of the blemishes would have been mentioned in the auction listing. And honestly I'm just happy to have the BM Elishewitz Stryker to match my custom.
Did the 910 get released with a thumb stud? I've been looking.

The reason I asked if you had a pic of the blade was to try and determine what generation it was. Sorry, I should have been more clear about that. From the pic below, which one is the blade that's on your Stryker? see the rear of the blade for the major difference.

The only picture I have is the one in the first post. Plain edge D2. I'm pretty sure it's first generation. I'm not a BM authority obviously.

No worries, I was just curious. I'm sure BM will take very good care of you.

Make sure to come back and update us on how it all goes.

All the best!

I'll definitely post a follow up. It's on the way to Oregon now.
Thanks for all the help everyone. :)

Got the 910D2 Stryker back today. 3 week turnaround is fantastic!
The knife looks great. They sharpened out the chips in the blade, replaced the clip, washers, all of the screws and associated hardware in the handle and generally cleaned it up. I buffed the blade out with Flitz to get rid of a few scratches and it looks good. I was told they wouldn't polish it and they didn't. And they threw in a new box!
Here's the really cool part: No charge...:) That doesn't happen very much anymore.
Overall I am very happy with the work done and can't praise Benchmade enough for their service department.

Here are a couple of crummy pictures. At least they're better than the first photo...
