Just got a new Rift. It is an awesome knife!

But, I have noticed an issue with the blade. The bevel grind is uneven - check out the picture. Has anyone else notice this issue? Is this a warranty issue? I would expect that a $135 knife would have a precision grind on it. And, the tip looks like it was burned during the grind process. Please let me know what y'all think...

I walked my 520 in their front door for an uneven grind and they gave me a new knife on the spot. Living in Oregon has its benefits.

What you've got there is something I won't tolerate on a Benchmade, or any other "higher end" knife.

Does it cut sharp like? Did you try it? Or are you just nit picking? Have you called Benchmade support folks, or did you just run to your computer to post this? You might want to start with Benchmade. They have stupendous service, and could address your microscopic, though obviously distressing issue.

Why does everyone whine here before letting the mfgr fix an issue, if it's even an issue?

Well the uneven blade grind is something I would not worry about if you plan on using the knife. Do you know how hard it is to grind something to be perfectly straight using just your eyes and still keeping the blade large ie. not grinding off half the blade? It's hard. In even just touching up my Yojimbo2 I use more pressure on the tip and now the tip is becoming upswept so doing the grind on a motorized belt with a quota to meet will probably lead to some slightly uneven grinds. The burnt tip though is something I would send in to have BM look at. No telling if the heat treat was messed up or something. So send it in, but for the overheated tip and not the slightly uneven grind. If you expect perfection in a $135 knife, you will almost always find yourself lacking.

I have contacted Benchmade and they are working on it. I am just using the forum that EXISTS TO TALK ABOUT KNIVES to ask a frickin question.

They did overheat the tip of your blade. As far as ruining the heat treatment, it's in such a small area that it probably won't really hurt the performance any. The crazy thing is I just received a Spyderco Paramilitary 2 that has a burned tip too. The good thing is they will take care of you, I wouldn't doubt it if they either give you a new knife or a new blade at minimum.

The burnt tip would give me pause, but I would not think twice about the variation in the edge. These are not done by machine.

Well...this is a knife forum.

I'm actually glad the OP brought this up because its something I never really thought about. Just checked my Rift and the grind is even. I'll probably check all my knives for that now, lol. Not saying its something that I'll be too concerned about, but it is nice to know. Just curious OP, was it obvious from the naked eye that your edge was uneven or did you only notice it after you laid it against a flat surface?

a guy with 2,100 posts is "effing troll"?

If I had 26 posts I would have a bit more respect as a newbie

With all due respect, Paul, the number of posts you have on this forum has nothing to do with anything. There is no reason for little Jim here to dump on my shit for asking a question. I paid my $25 just like you to be a member of this forum, so please check your attitude at the door. Again if you don't like my question, then don't read my posts anymore. Honestly, I've never been a part of a forum that has so many members with chips on their shoulders. What the hell is wrong with you guys?

Hey Jim - If you don't like my post don't comment on it you effing troll

If you don't like his post, don't comment on it yourself. Don't insult other members, either.

Focus on discussing the knives, not each other.

This is not Whine & Cheese. I am not going to spend the rest of the evening chasing down your vulgarity. Thread closed.
