I just received my new Benchmade Rift limited edition, and I must say, this knife is giving my large Sebenza a run for its money as the favorite large folder in my collection. They are very similar in size, and both weigh 4.7 oz. I'm an engineer so I appreciate the high tech materials used for the scales of each of these knives (titanium for the Sebbie, carbon fiber for the Rift). And the Rift, like the Sebbie, has that "built like a tank" feel. I love the design of the Rift - both the blade and handle profile are just beautiful to my eyes. Anyway, here are a couple of photos for comparison. I'm going to be carrying the Rift a lot!

I love my Rift. It's my EDC. Wouldn't be using it if if were the limited eddition. Congrat's on a great knife!

blasphemy :O I love my rift too. And i saved a ton over a lefty Sebbie.

I have had a Rift in my pocket every day for over 3 years. It is my favorite knife period. I have one of the carbon fiber ones and haven't used it yet but have thought of putting the scales on one of my M4 versions to make a super Rift. If I didn't already have 2 users I would be using the carbon fiber one so don't let the fact that it is a limited edition stop you from carrying it.

Good choice!

Nice pair, but I like the sebenza more:) I have never warmed up to carbon fiber just because I dont like the way it reacts to impact hits.

Wow those look great!! i still like the sebbie...it seems like it would be a little bit slimmer and carry a little better:D

My Rift is currently my fav BM product. I'll usually carry it even before my H&K 14205. The Rift's blade profile just seem to make it a better cutter to me.

I really liked the Rift (particularly the G10 handle) but the bastard was just a little too big for my small hands so I traded it for a couple Spydercos. It is an awesome knife though.

Your Seb has the same ugly hump on the spine that mine had (also a Regular).

I recently sanded the hump off and have found a new love for my Seb!

Thanks for all the comments. And I still love my Sebbie dearly -- it's just going to have some company at the top of the heap. And yes, I'm going to carry the Rift. Even for the limited edition I paid less than half what the Sebbie cost and I carry it quite a lot. No matter how you slice it, it's going to be a great summer!

Both great looking knives, if I may, where did you pick that rift up at??

I don't think we're allowed to mention specific dealers in this forum, but if you Google for it, you'll find the places that have it. It is a 200-piece limited edition. I'm guessing that the standard G10 scaled version is pretty darn sweet as well, for a fair bit less.

If I had to chose a favorite knife it would probably have to be the RIFT. I own two of them (black and black/gray) and if I hadn't recently gotten sniped in the last seconds of an auction I'd own a carbon fiber. On the plus side I used the funds for a small Bone Collector that may well give my RIFTs a run for their money.

Did you fill in the ugly hole in the handle too? Just say'in.

No, I have no problem with the hole in the handle.

Ideally a Regular Seb's blade should look like this..

..although I have noticed that most Regulars left Chris Reeve with a blade profile that is much closer to the Classic's.

My Sebenza had an ugly "hunchback" profile to the spine which I didn't like, so I removed it.

There once was a knife called the Rift
Whose action was wonderfully swift
With blade so robust
It's a knife you can trust
It'd be a great Christmas gift!

I recently handled the rift in a local store. First time they had it in and only quality importer. I really liked it a LOT! It made its way onto my want list! Just felt right and good in the hand. Did not expect it though because I thought the handle would not be comfortable. Boy was I mistaken!
