Hi Folks,
Has anyone out there had the opportunity to see the new benchmade river rescue knife, my brother does a lot of white water kayaking and asked me about them last night. I told him that Benchmade was a good name, but hadn't seen one of the knives yet. So I told him that I'd run it by the folks here who actually know a thing or two,and I'd get back to him. Also, he can get it at wholesale cost, which probably means he can't go wrong, but I just thought I'd ask. Any information is greatly appreciated.

The knife itself is pretty good. A more ergonomic handle would be nice. The handle is essentially the same as the handle on the Nimravus. The sheath has an attachment device for some sort of rafting equipment. I would have preferred a Tec-lock. It is advertised as a river rafter though.

I have it, though I don't do any rafting. The knife fits my hand pretty comfortably, though it could be small for some people. If knives around the size of a Spyderco Delica feels comfortable to you then the BM R&R probably will too.

Like fudo says, the sheath clip does seem to be made for some rafting specific gear. Right now I'm trying to figure out a way to adapt it to belt carry. You can't simply clip it to your belt as the position of the clip is off centered weight wise and the knife's handle would dip down if you tried to carry it horizontally on your belt. But that's no fault of BM, since it's not designed for that kind of carry. The knife locking mechanism on the sheath is very cool.

I've yet to use the knife really. I got the combo edge which with 20/20 hindsigth was a mistake for me. The serrations take up about half of the blade, which means they get in the way of the plain edge on most cuts, and vice versa. But maybe that's a plus in rafting and rescue. I bought the knife to use as a fixed EDC, so maybe I'm taking the combo edge a little out of its designed environment.
