Hey guys. I know I've been REALLY slow on my reviews of the passarounds. Here's my review of the Benchmade Rukus and the Skirmish.
Benchmade Rukus
I had the knife the week that Hurricane Gustav hit Louisiana. First off, as everyone says when they first see one, "That's a big knife!" I found the handle to be comfortable and the micarta and G10 to go well together. The blade opened smoothly and was very easy to one hand open thanks to the Axis lock and the blade's weight. I found the knife went through cardboard with no problems. I even tried it on some downed debris after the storm. In all the cutting I did, I saw no edge damage or significant dulling. I don't cut as much as many of you but in my everyday tasks, this knife did very well. This one rode inside my pocket most of the time and was actually pretty comfortable considering the size and weight.
Benchmade Skirmish (full size)
This is another BIG knife. While not as smooth as the Axis on the Rukus, the framelock was still very smooth. The blade came very sharp and the thin edge was good for detail work as well as things like cardboard. The hole opener was effective. I think the handles looked really nice thanks to the differential anodizing. This one is almost like a giant gentleman's knife. The thinner handle on the Skirmish made it very comfortable to carry for its size.
Comparisons
-The Rukus was easier to both open and close.
-The thinner profile on the Skirmish is probably better for delicate EDC tasks.
-Between the 2, I liked the Rukus just a little better.
-The Skirmish was more comfortable to carry due to its thinner handles, however, I think the Rukus would be more comfortable for extended use.
