Anyone know why the Rukus replace meant inlays are incredibly expensive? :(

The carbon fiber ones look great, but at $90, there more expensive then many good knives, like the Spyderco Sage. Which includes carbon fiber scales... and liners, washers, screws, S30V blade....

Anybody know why there so $$$$

Since BM sets the MSRP, which I think IS high, their dealers have to set their prices somewhere near that point. But I don't like it either. Even the plain G-10 inserts are not cheap.

There's a 'cutlery' shop at Fisherman's Wharf in SF, carries some good stuff. I heard from a friend that they had the CF inserts in stock, so I called to ask what they wanted for them, and was quoted $110...!

Other online places have 'em in the $90 range, but still considering most of my knives are in the $100 plus category that's still too much.

So while they look nice, I can't see many of the CF inserts sell, considering the knife itself's worth around $150 (for a 615!)

My solution: I traded off my 615 for a 710. Nothing to replace or change.

I've been to that store plenty of times and it's not uncommon to see some knives offered at above MSRP. Great selection, but they cant come close to competing with online dealers. The inlays are an extra knife IMO, I wouldn't buy them. But if you love you Rukus and no other knife will do it for you, then it might be worth it for you. I'd rather buy different knives in the $250 range.

Not enough demand so they have to cover their costs, resulting in higher prices.

If there was more demand the price would be less.

I had a set of replacement rukus scales made by Chase in red linen micarta for about $70. Came out well.

He is also working on another folder for me and part of it will use carbon fiber. Little did i know the cost of carbon fiber has nearly doubled....
