So I finally had a couple (actually 4) of my S30V-equipped Benchmades get enough miles on them; to require some touch-up work on their edges.
I was all set to drag out the "heavy hardware", and start setting angles, and clamping blades...
Just for fun: I decided to grab my 14" F. Dick (😁) honesteel, and gave it a shot.
It turned out that I needed less than a dozen strokes for each blade, and I ran out of forearm hair for shaving!
So now I'm almost hoping for some S90V knives to start showing some weariness: that steel rocks!! 👍

Lately I've been using my 220 grit dmt stone on my high vanadium steels (s30, s90) and I really enjoy the coarse, very sharp edge. Goes through paper towel cleanly like it's not even there. Works great for me. This is on Spyderco and Benchmade knives.
I've found the same for my high carbide content steels, S30V, S35Vn, S110V, V3, M4 (even D2) -- create a burr with the extra coarse, but then I finish with a few light strokes on the DMT extra fine.

Agreed with the others. I don't go much above a 400 grit venev stone any more and I use a 16 micron strop for maintenance. Keeps them shaving even after some serious use.
Dang 16 micron should do some work! I was looking for some aggressive stropping compound yesterday and had a hard time finding much above 5 or 6 micron. I ended up getting some 5 micron paste for a good deal and a couple balsa strops to make it a little more aggressive.

Yeah it's awesome. It really changed how I deal with my knives. Bark river 16 micron cbn is fantastic. It's not cheap but it preforms great.
Well son of a b, I might have ordered that yesterday if I would have known. I knew I should have made a post asking about it haha. Yea I bet that really does work good.

Don't worry about it too much. It's not a necessity but nice to have. Your 5 to 6 micron will still leave a nice edge with some subtle bite to it.

Benchmade is known for running their steel a little on the soft side so it isn’t surprising that your edge sharpened up easily.
