Benchmade Salt Competitor?

Why doesn’t BM compete more against Spyderco in the “super rust resistant” category? Their Salt line seems to be very popular and there are now several steels on the market that can be used for knives and are extremely rust resistant.

I know they used to have the N690co Griptilian, but I believe it’s long discontinued and also wasn’t quite as rust resistant as they claimed...seems like a missed opportunity?

I believe Benchmade feels that their current stainless offerings should be fine against a salty environment. The internals of the N690 Grip were the same if I remember correctly as any other grip (Omega Springs - etc).

I recall reading somewhere that back in the days it was actually Benchmade that first used H1 steel for their Dive Knives, which they later ditched for N680. For a while BM produced a range of N680 fixed blade and "Bullhead" folding dive knives which are now long discontinued. For the folders, only the blade was N680, not the liners, omega springs & hardware.

Seems a missed opportunity, seeing how popular the Spyderco H1 Salts are nowadays.
