I have a Benchmade mini Pika partially serrated with the black coating.

Click on the picture of the knives to see the serrations close up.

This is a EDC knife - not for hiking/camping.
It is a great knife for the price.
It makes me want to try other Benchmade knives.

If you have a Benchmade with similar serrations. I have a couple of questions.

How effect have you found the serrations? They are very shallow. I didn't expect that. In a way not much different from a plain edge.

How do you sharpen the serrations?
I have a Spyderco Sharpemaker and my concern would be that using the corner side and the recommended slicing motion as you draw the knife down the stone would turn the serrated edge into a plain edge. The serrations are that shallow.
Thanks

I think that the Benchmade serrations are kind of shallow and not that pronounced but I haven't used them and don't know their effectiveness but my Spyderco's serrations are bigger and deeper and chew through cardboard.

the BM serrations are ok, i dont think they cut as good as spyderco but they are ok. i would prefer PE on any BM for sure vs a SE or CE.

ya wouldnt draw the knife thru the sharpmaker like ya say, sharpen the PE like that and then do the SE seperately like the sharpmaker instructions say, i imagine if ya did try to sharpen like ya say long enough it would flatten the serrations like ya say, but man that would take a while lol,

SIFU1A,
I checked the directions for sharpening serrations on a Sharpmaker - it says to draw it down like a PE.

really? that sounds like an odd way to do it, IIRC mine said to sharpen each individual serration by using the side vs the flat of the stone, with the stone riding into each serration one at a time, get a burr, and then use the flats for the burr, i dont understand how ya could sharpen the serrations like ya would a PE, just doesnt seem like that would work, anyway try it like i say, or get a rat tail looking sharpening rod from DMT thats what i use now and it works better vs the sharpmaker imho,

i'll have to look at my video its been a while, maybe they mean draw it down like ya would a PE but do each individual serration - in other words draw it straight down while riding in the serration vs drawing the knife thru the stone??

I'm thinking the same as you.
Page 7 of the Sharpemaker instruction booklet says and shows sharpening serrations similar to PE - not doing individual serrations.

You do realize this thread is about 5 1/2 years old don't you ? Try posting your question in the BM sub-forum. There is a lot of great info, and some very helpful people there

why to open a new post if this one exist??? is not that the idea of the forum?? otherwise will be more like a Group chat
