Benchmade Service Need Help

I took my mini skirmish apart to clean it and when I went to put it back together one of the screw that holds the stand off snapped. I went to the Benchmade site and sent an e-mail question about repairs but have not heard back.

My questions are:

Will they fix it?

Do you know the cost of the repair?

Should I just fill out one of the repair forms and send it in or wait for a response?

Any help is appreciated
Thanks

Mark

For some reason some of the online forms and emails that I sent to Benchmade didn't get to them.
I suspected that it was their spam filter. I swapped the word "screw" for "threaded retaining device" and my message got through. It's probably pure coincidence though!

When you can get hold of them, their service is second-to-none. I asked for a small scale "threaded retaining device" for a Griptilian and they sent me a complete set free of charge.

As you're in the USA, give them a call.

Call them, and go back to the Benchmade site, to download the warranty repair form and send in with the knife.

I wouldn't worry too much.

I called them per the advice here on BF and the knife is now on the way to Oregon for repair, I will keep you guys posted on how it turns out.

I am hoping for the best because the Mini Skirmish is my favorite Benchmade Knife and they are getting hard to come by.

Lol "threaded retaining device".

Here are some pics for this thread in case you start to miss your mini Skimish.

Man, I love this Skirmish.

Just call them. Talk to Andy, he'll set you up.

+1. Andy is a good man. He used to live about 20 minutes away from my hometown. Nice guy.

Technically, however, taking the blade apart voids the warranty (as per the fine print), but I am sure they will still take care of you. Call them though, I tried to email them once and they never got back to me.

Just a FWIW, I always use a minute mini-droplet of "blue" loc-tite when putting stand-offs together. You just have to get them snug and a hot blow dryer will defeat the glue if you need to take them apart. YMMV :)

Benchmade is either horrible with emails, or hate me. I sent three emails over the period of a month, and didn't receive any response until I called them.

Once I called, though CS was quick and efficient, and I got my part free of charge within a week.

It's always better to call and speak with a live person. This way there is no waiting and there is no guessing. Most people don't really like to call because they are very reliant on email communication. With businesses it's especially important making personal contact (telephone or in person if possible). Things can easily slip through the cracks as workloads and staffing can vary.

My questions are:

Will they fix it? Probably

Do you know the cost of the repair? Depends on whether or not you left obvious signs of damage by disassembling it. They can easily tell.

Should I just fill out one of the repair forms and send it in or wait for a response? Yes. You will need the form when they receive it when mailed. You can also call and explain what happened. DId you torque the screw too hard or strip the threads in the process of reassembly?

Any help is appreciated
Thanks

Check the red.

Doesn't taking a Benchmade apart void the warranty? I heard that but don't know my butt from a hole in the ground 1/2 the time. :o

They never answer my emails either and I'm registered on their site. A phone call yields quick results. Good luck, they were very friendly with me on the phone. :)

You might be correct.

Yes taking a BM "technically" voids the warranty. But I've yet to hear of a case where BM actually voided somebody's warranty. It doesn't seem enforced, I think it's there mostly to deter people.

As for contacting BM, phone call is best by far. I think their system must spam half the emails, and for the ones they do get they're normally a week behind to respond.
