Although I have owned a Benchmade product for a few years, I had not taken advantage of their lifetime sharpening service. I am selling my full size Griptilian so I sent it off to get a new edge for the new owner.

I got the knife back today, and they went through the whole knife and replaced every part except the blade and frame/scales. New washers, omega springs, axis lock, screws, pocket clip, etc. I was amazed at how thoroughly they went through the knife, for only the cost of return shipping. And to top it off they sent it 3 day select back.

The knife feels brand new. I didn't even really think it needed anything other than the resharpening, but man does it feel nice. Now I have to send it off to its new home :(

I already have the mini grip in D2 to replace it, and a 710 D2 on the way, so hopefully I won't miss it.

Cliff Notes: Benchmade customer service is amazing

Excellent service. I'm just tired of sending in all of my small autos for spring replacement.:(

Last year I sent in a 440c 42 that I screwed up by trying to take it apart for a thorough cleaning (I couldn't press out the pin and it got stuck). I also requested they sharpen it while it was there.

Got a brand new 154cm 42 a week later.

I had a 940 that I had scratched and dinged when I bumped into my truck. Then, I tried to remove the pocket clip, and stripped the screws. I sent it in to see if they could polish out the scratches and replace the clip.

One week later, they sent me a brand new 940. Not bad!

Yup, the customer service by benchmade is very good, they will take care of you. But.... why do you send the knife to the to get dull? lol. Every single benchmade I had was pretty dull coming from the factory. They were no where near as sharp as bucks or kershaws knife.

Benchmade's CS is tops. Nothing comes close to their way of doing things and all backed up with a bombproof warranty.

Inca - sorry to read about the dull ones that came your way...I have lots of these BM things and found only a couple of questionable ones in years of bringing 'em home. Quick trip up to LifeSharp and they all came back as I like 'em nice and sharp.

First Benchmade that I bought was a "Ambush", it was one of their non-USA made Red Class models and was discontinued when I bought it for $52.99. One day the spring for the assisted-opening broken, so I sent it in along with the receipt showing how much I paid for it.

About a week later I got the knife back with a note that said they couldn't fix the problem or replace the knife because it was discontinued, so instead they gave me a $100 promotional discount toward any product on Benchmade.com. Even sent the knife back in case it had sentimental value ( which it did ) just saying not to use it because it's not safe, but it's basically fully functional aside from the assisted opening.

So yeah, I'd say they have terrific service. I don't agree with some of their policies, but they do everything they can to make it right on their end. In my case I think they even went the extra mile giving me $48 extra dollars to replace a product that only cost me $52. Worked out for them too as it gave me such confidence in their service, I decided to pop down $100 on top of the discount to get a Kulgera.

Though, as much as they go above and beyond consumer satisfaction, I haven't been 100% okay with their warranty policies concerning omega springs. I would have to send my knife in to get them replaced, or void my warranty disassembling to just replace them myself. I decided to void my warranty and replace them myself and just pay for whatever repairs I may need down the road, but it sucks to have to make the choice. Paying for insurance and tracking to ship a knife versus $1 to bend a guitar spring into shape.

So yeah, even though they don't necessarily have the best warranty policies in my opinion, they definitely do more than what is called for to make a problem right.

As far as the spring issues go...

Yeah, I open and close the knife too much. However, considering how much they MSRP the knife and how much it actually sells for regularly, it seems odd to me they wouldn't use springs that were better. I bought a 3 ft length of guitar string for $1 that I used for springs that have out-lasted the amount of times I opened-and-closed the Kulgera springs by far--seriously I spent basically a whole day watching television trying to break my guitar-string springs and it never happened. I would think that for the price they charge for their knives, they wouldn't want to burden the consumer with cost to replace the springs and just send them out in the mail like Kershaw does. Either that or not use cheap metal for the springs--I mean, if I can buy 3 ft. of guitar string that has out classed the metal used in their springs by this much for $1, then obviously they're not using premium materials for the springs.

Instead, I have to pay the cost of shipping, insurance and delivery confirmation and risk having my knife lost in the mail to fix a spring that shouldn't have broke in the first place and that I could have replaced myself.

Despite that I don't think it says as much about their CS as what they did to replace my Ambush so I don't really hold it against them; I just think it's the only thing keeping their CS from being perfect.

Well, I must say I never sent one in for lifesharp as I sharpen my own, but brand new from the factory they were not very good at all. I could cut better with my kitchen spoon. But a few minutes with my belt sander and they were whittling hair.
