recently purchased 2 bench made knives-710 and 943. Re-profiled the 943 to i think 22 each side on my edge pro, want to re-profile the 710 as well bc the factory sharpness on the edge is pretty pathetic compared to what my spyderco's came with. Was doing the sharpie trick on the 710 with the edge pro, and looks like the edge is about the same as my 943 at first, around 27-30 on each side. Should i try to match the factory angle best i can with the sharpie, or just drop down to say 25 on the edge pro and re-profile it? Want to get this thing razor sharp like my spyderco paramilitary 2, and i think the fat blade with around a 27-30 degree angle (rough grind) acts more like a wedge and doesn't slice well

Your Benchmade blades are different from the Spyderco Para 2. Spyderco is a flat grind and thinner behind the edge where the Benchmade are more of a saber grind and thicker behind the edge. Your will have to reprofile those blades and they still may not slice/cut as easily at the Spyderco Praa2.

Makes sense I guess. So what angle would u recommend? Just re-profile at approximately the same angle or go to a lower angle like 22-25 or something

The steel should dictate the angle. Some steel doesn't maintain an edge well if it's too thinned down.

Hemi1300 I do my sharpening freehand so really cant say what angle they are. Primary is low, almost flat to the stone but not flat enough to scratch up the blade, Then do the secondary about twice the primary. In other words low and a little higher. Works well but takes a little time the first time around. After than your good to go for quite a while.

Angle is preference. Everyone here can give you a angle and tell you why its the best. Truth is, YOU have to experiment and find out what works best for you. Me personally, I like 18-20º per side. My 710 that I'm carrying this week is still factory edge and is holding up fine.

You could use the sharpie trick to determine the current angle. Then lower it a couple of degrees each time you sharpen until it's where you want it. That will prevent a lot of grinding at once.

Good sharpening,
Dave

Good thought, gonna re profile approximately the same angle as factory, maybe a few degrees lower to get my nice polished edge with the edge pro. Just did the sharpie trick a bit ago, checked angle with angle cube and it's at 30 degrees each side, holy cow
