Hey guys, I've got the hankering for another knife (who doesn't) and the next on my list is another Benchmade. I already have a mini-griptillian and absolutely love it. I'm thinking I want a full size griptilian and am seriously considering the black handle, stainless blade (154CM), with the modified sheepsfoot, and round hole instead of a thumbstud. I love the axis lock and the smoothe action, and the blade steel is great, the only thing I ever didn't like about the mini grip is when I put my hand into my pocket to get say some change or chapstick or my old camillus electrician knife the thumbstud scrapes my hand. Hopefully the new one without the thumbstud won't do that. Is there any particular benefit or drawback to the modified sheepsfoot style, it looks like it should make a good all around knife.

Everyone has different tasts but I just don't like tanto points, serrations, or camo knives. I have a habit of laying them down when working on something and then having to look for a camo knife doesn't work. I wish Benchmade had the full size griptilian in a blaze orange or even bright yellow like the mini's, although I'm a little traditional I might get used to the bright color.

I find the 551's thumb studs easier to use than the 550HG's round hole and always recommend the 551.

I find that the 555HG Mini Grip's round hole works fine but, because of the 550HG's thicker handle, it is more awkward to get my thumb down to the hole. I hope that makes sense.

That's why I like the holes on the 550's. And as far as using the thumb stud, I don't. Or the hole for that matter. I just pull the axis back and a slight flick of the wrist and it's open.

I think the sheepsfoot blade and the grind Benchmade puts on it makes the knife a great cutter. I don't think it'll make a good pry bar tho.:o

Get the 550HG, I think you'll like it.
