For those of you that have one - Is the thumb stud reversible? I searched on the reviews forum, and here with no luck.
Thanks for your help.

I've got one and just took a look at it. I'm going to guess that the answer is no, at least not by a regular screwdriver or wrench. Still, it was put on somehow so one would assume it could be taken off as well. Perhaps you could order one from Benchmade that way?

Thanks for the information - as a lefty, I would like to reverse the thumb stud. None of the pictures I found show the stud well enough to determine if a torq's or allen wrench might work.

Just took a look at mine through a loupe...either it's 2 pcs press fit...or could be threaded, without knowing which I beleive you would seriously mar or break them trying to remove...
The folks at Benchmade are VERY helpfull...give 'em a call...
on another note...I just practiced closing mine lefty...I'm definately not a lefty...I am able to confidently work the lock release and close the knife lefty...Just an observation...

Thanks for the information - I just ordered one, and will definirely give Benchmade a call when it arrives.

Sorry, the best I could do:

I could have sworn that Benchmade could swap it out for you. I believe I saw it over on BMs forum where they switched the stud on a 480-1.

I don't have one anymore, but as I recall, the thumb stud is also part of the opening system and presses on the liner lock. I doubt you could reverse it.

How do ya'll like this knife?

I like it but not sure it's worth the money considering what I could have bought for around the same amount. (For instance, I was able to buy a Chris Reeve Professional Soldier for less than what I paid for the Shoki.)

The thumbstud IS the opening system. It has nothing to do with the lock.

I think they've went down in price. I can pick one up at bladehq for about 146$. Don't know if that's any cheaper than what you paid for it?

I think I paid $160 for mine. (Impulse buy.) I paid $150 for the Professional Soldier.

A Benchmade Customer Service Rep has informed me that the thumb stud on the Shoki cannot be reversed for left hand opening because there is an indentation for the stud on only one side of the blade.

Further to my response above, I recently purchased a Shoki 480-1 (first production run) from a previous owner who had it converted to lefty (by reversing the thumb stud) at Benchmade. There is no evidence of an indentation on either side of the blade and the stud works very well for left-hand opening.

When I contacted the aforementioned BM Customer Service Rep to inquire about this inconsistency, I received the following reply:

"When that knife first came out they (Shoki) had a recess in the blade. It seems that our customer feedback was successful in getting that changed and the information was not passed on to us. Thanks for the email. Have a wonderful day. "

the benchmade is a folding knife with an M390 steel blade, titanium liners and carbon fiber scales, the CRK professional soldier is small S35N fixed blade with no handle scales, talk about comparing apples to oranges
