Hi all.

I have a BM 483 Shori First Production that I received as a gift a couple years ago. From the get go, the blade was not centered. It never really bothered me until now and I was wondering if it can be fixed. Now that it bothers me it bothers me every time it is in my pocket. Now, I use the knife so it is not a collector or anything I baby. If it can be fixed, should I get a hold of BM and see what they say?

Alon the same line, how does a blade become off center or get produced off center? The only thing I can think of is an off center pivot pin or pivot hole in the blade. If that is the case I can't think how it can be fixed without some serious work.

Here is a process that usually works. Loosen the pivot screw, push blade to center and block the blade with a thin piece of cardboard or such then tighten the pivot screw and remove blocking material. If the blade goes back off center loosen all the screws, not necessary to remove just loosen them. Then block the blade again and starting with the pivot screw start to tighten all the screws up. It may take several tries but this method usually works. Just have to get ever thing lined up. USE THE PROPER TORX DRIVERS TO LOOSEN AND TIGHTEN SCREWS After you get it centered you will probably want to put a drop of Blue locktite or even finger nail polish on the pivot screw threads.

"Tolerances" probably best describes why a production knife goes off center or gets produced off center. There is a mix and match of parts, especially the washers on various knives. Unless the blade is rubbing the liner, being off center is not usually an issue. Yes, it can be fixed typically at home.

Here's what I do.

With the knife closed.
I would loosen all the screws including the clip screws
Now snug down on the pivot. Not real tight, just hand tight.
I then gently, but firmly, apply pressure to each side of the knife in opposite directions.
Left side up/right side down or Left side down/right side up; while at the same time seeing what combination gives you the desired results.
While holding the right effect, start tightening screws. If the tightening of one particular screw ruins the effect. Tighten this problem screw last.
Once all screws are tight, adjust pivot.

I think I will give the in house methods a try and if that doesnt work, shoot BM an email.

So, how long should I wait to hear back from Benchmade when contacting them through their online form? It has been 7 days since I contacted them on the evening of the 11th. I got an email back after contacting them so I know it went through.

Once the knife is in-system, they will have a track record of that knife repair. S'far as how long the wait will be depends on timing based on how many warranty repairs and LifeSharp are in the works. I've had knives returned witin eight days, even some faster. If you really want to find out what the status is call them, don't email. 800-800-7427 and ask for Customer Service.

The thing is I just emailed to ask what I should do and haven't heard back in 7 days. What is the expected wait for a reply to their contact form.
