Ok guys need some help.
going to get a knew knife and need some advice.
i have a BM rukus and now i'm looking to get the skirmish for the left pocket.
what you guys think of this knife over all view and for self defence.
i'm not to keen on the tip down clip i dont thinkn it can be opened as fast as tip down.

IS the lock firm and secure?

NOw i am also looking at the BM fixed resistor snody, i already have a fix nivara which is great.

so i'm not sure what to do, can anyone help me out
which knife?
Oh and i've held them both and they both feel great, but i only want one

well the skirmish does not have a reversable clip, it is set up for right handed carry only. That being said I realy like my Skirmish. It is a BIG knife. The lock up on mine sounds like a bank vault. I would carry one for SD purpise, buy you might want to look at the mini Skirmish. Best of luck, John

I love mine, I just sent it off to get sharpened (I wrecked the edge trying to sharpen it, I am a retard), dont worry about lockup, mine was so sturdy with that HUGE Ti Monolock it was very hard to disengage untill I broke it in, took a couple days. Very well made, no blade play, it is huge, but it carries well and sits in the hand nicely!

Tip down is the right way for this massive knife to be possitioned (for me anyway). When you grab the top of the knife with the thumb and indexfinger, pull it up into your hand, it's in the right place.

Left hand carry is a different issue. You would have the knife blade opening into your palm and there is no place to move it to on my Skirmish.

If your gonna pack both those knives at once, you're going to need suspenders. :D nice knives tho.

When I was looking to change EDCs I considered the mini Skirmish for a while. Then I saw a good deal for the full size and decided to give it a try.
Been in my pocket ever since.
Lock up on mind was so tight it was a real pain to close at first.....literally like it made my thumb hurt! But after a week it was good to go.
Serrious, solid knife. Cuts great IMO. Retains edge well.
It (so far) is the largest knife I EDC with comfort.....my voyager is just too big. I would dare say this is THE knife for me (today:) )

I don't carry my Skirmish any more. The handle is great, lock up is great, but I was not pleased by the blade performance over time. Either mine was primarily ground wrong or the heat treat is bad, but it doesn't hold an edge well and has never been a good cutter. And it doesn't have good penetration, based on the design of the tip. Its a shame, if the handle of the skirmish could be mated to a good flat ground blade like the Rukus, it would be pefect. (I have no problem sharpening my other knives, its not a technique issue) Now the Rukus has an excellent blade, the only problem with the Rukus is that the handle is a little chubby for everyday carry if you work in an office like I do. But the Rukus is an excellent knife. I ended up having some dremel fun with the Skirmish and removed a lot of metal from the upper end of the blade, leaving me with a framelock Rekat pocket hobbit with a hump, if you remember that knife.

I'd like to have a Dominator with a 4.5 inch blade. Shame they don't make that.

Very sweet SD blade.I have a kydex belt sheath so I can carry it like a FB.Very fast to deploy. It is a KEEPER.

I am by no means an expert on self defense, but I do pay attention to it and I just don't see the Skirmish as an optimal sd design, unless of course you want to bludgeon somebody. :) The blade is thick and doesn't seem well suited to penetration or especially deep cuts. It is heavy so I guess there would be some mass behind it, but I would much prefer a BM 710 or AFCK for that kind of work. At least to my way of thinking.

I think the Skirmish would be a great self defense knife. When you pull it out and flick it open, it sounds like someone is racking a Rem. 870.:D Lockup on mine is bank vault solid and I would think the imtimidation factor would be worth a lot. I would not want to get hit with the end of the handles in a hammer fist either.

I would also like to add that I think it is pretty ridiculous for people to plan their lives around the prospect of getting into a knife fight, but that's just me... If you fear for your life, get a handgun.

Greetings
Have both Skirmish & Ruckus. Was working out with Ruckus recently when it suddenly went limp on me - my thumb had inadvertently pressed the Axis lock and the blade dropped. Still carry it but am very careful about how I hold it now. Prefer the Skirmish for general carry (including SD if needed). That framelock just will not open by accident or while torquing the blade in your hand. Skirmish to me is "almost" the perfect knife - big & intimidating but light enough to carry. Beautiful blade that cuts like lightning. In my view, perfect for SD. Aside: Buddy of mine on his first day in the service witnessed a fight wherein one guy was killed with a SPOON!!!! Frankly, I think we agonise over the adequacy of our knives too much. Skirmish vs Ruckus ~ Skirmish wins every time. (Had to buy one for my wife too!)
