OK, this is no big deal, but I got this BM 910 (I think-number is tiny and well worn, like the rest of the knife) in 154CM from a guy in the military, Army I believe.

My question is this: Does anyone recognize the emblem, what did it say, and do you have any theories on why he'd purposely scratch it out? Was it some special edition, and if so, what value would he have destroyed, providing the knife was in better shape? The whole knife is well used, but it looks as if he took a Dremel and did his best to erase whatever it said. Did it identify the knife as "non-issue", or stolen, something he could have caught hell for?

As you'd expect, the knife is well broken in, still locks up tight, and I'll put the edge back on it. It's already better now than when I got it. I like it from the aspect that it's a great knife I won't feel like I have to baby, a true user.

Thanks in advance - DYD

Too thorough. If you're lucky, someone will recognize the shape of the insignia. It looks like lettering or symbols are gone.

On page 48 of the Benchmade Professional interactive catalog (easier to go to back cover then to last page) it explains how knives can be ordered custom engraved (for military, police, etc). I bet it has something to do with him being in the service.

Navy maybe? Naval Postgraduate School?

Not a special edition, no particular value added, just someone ordered a logo printed on the blade. He could have scratched it off for any number of reasons, but most likely nothing devious. Probably involved whiskey and feelings, so maybe don't ask him. ;)

Being a former Army Soldier, I can tell you that the emblem resembles unit insignia. The top part resembles a Ranger School Tab. The second might be an Airborne Tab. The bottom looks like a Ranger Unit shield. This is not the standard arrangement of the tabs and shield but more of a customized arrangement, if that's what they are. I can't be 100% certain without being able to actually see the writing, but my guess will be very close if not right on. It might have been ordered by a unit from Benchmade. Sometimes the local gun/military stores around the Army bases order them from Benchmade with logos or insignia for the marketing effect. There's probably no particular reason why the former owner scratched it off other than he didn't like it.
Hope this helps.

Ranger was my first guess too, but I thought I'd throw it out there to see if any of you have similar for comparison. It's too bad...would be nice if left intact. Maybe he didn't make the cut and was booted from the program.

I'd still like to see one as it came if anyone has one. Thanks guys.

it seems like i have seen a stryker like that and the logo was for some training school possibly run by bob kasper??

sure seems like it anyway and IIRC kasper did train with the stryker some.

other than the logo is it a std stryker, no other mods? IIRC kasper also mod'ed some strykers, or commisioned someone to.
