benchmade tactical?

The best Benchmade for fighting? How about the one you happen to have when you're being mugged!

Just my opinion but I like the 710. Yeah, Benchmade has released a lot of other prettier knives since then but the 710 has a full 4 inch (plus a bit) blade. I know it doesn't sound like much of a difference between 4 inches and 3.5 inches, but heck it's a half inch reach advantage. Plus the Axis lock is not likely to let you down.
Comfortable grip (steel lined G-10) too.

But it's more important to get whatever is comfortable for you.

If you can swing it, I'd go fixed blade. Even something discreet like a Nimravus. Why? You eliminate several factors such as that extra step it takes to flip a blade open, and potential lock failures (although this is not as likely to happen on an Axis lock).

If you've never taken martial arts or had weapons training go get it. Or else get some good knife fighting books and videos and practise, practise, practise doing drills until they are second nature for that one time you may have to use it. Also make sure you practice with a practise blade...or am I the only one whose knife has gone flying across the room? :o

Any BM will do the job but my favourite of the lot is the AFCK.

I agree with Full Tang Clan. Get the one that feels most comfortable to you. If you ever have to get into a knife fight you want be able to control your weapon.

I would go to a knife shop or any place that has knives, try them out. Then go buy it off the internet or magazine for a better price.

best one for me is either the AFCK (liner or axis version)the stryker, or the old 975S-bt 4" emrson designed tanto blade, probably in that order..........

I would still seriously consider a fixed blade if it's strictly for knife fighting/personal protection.

Because if you are sucker punched, or the guy attacking you took some Brazillian JiuJitsu lessons after watching UFC, you might find yourself on your back. The last thing you need is the hassle of trying to open up your folder. Yeah, I know it's easy to do when you are flicking your knife in the comfort of your living room, but it might be a different when your adrenaline is rushing and there's a 250 lb animal on top of you pounding on your face!

This said, I'm a hypocrite because I carry a folder (along with a kubotan). However, I am looking for a fixed blade but I'm not willing to pay big bucks for a knife made out of exotic steels that, hopefully, I'll never have to use.
