Benchmade tolerances

In inches, that isn't very difficult. I thought you meant millimeters, which would give a tolerance of +/- 0.5 microns. You can't even effectively measure that using lasers.

Even in inches, you're beyond the capability of calipers. Now you're using a micrometer or some such thing.

But regardless, unless someone from Benchmade comes out and provides their tolerance range and rather or not all parts for all their knives are in fact made to such close tolerances, this is a moot point.

Like I said in the other thread, having the capabilities mean nothing unless you implement those capabilities. It's the difference between "can" and "do."

Anyone know what Spyderco and Kershaw use for their tolerances?

In my experience, Benchmade has excellent quality and manufacturing in the overall knife, but the grinding everywhere on the blade is a little off.

Yes, and not just a cheap micrometer, nor a micrometer that measures to a nominal .001", nor a micrometer of any kind or quality that has not been recently calibrated...

And I have to say, at least in my opinion, for most knives and most designs, the tolerances we're throwing around simply do not matter in real life.

So when a backspacer is notably undercut or the liners are misfit or the blade doesn't center or has a completely wrecked edge those are within tolerances?

Good to know because it reaffirms my beliefs about BM.

First, re-opening a topic after I closed it is inadvisable. I closed it for a reason: it had run its course and had deteriorated beyond any use. I have no reason to believe a continuation would be any better.

Second, carrying on a conversation with another website is unnecessary. Anyone who wants to discuss this with Benchmade can go there. We discourage cross-forum posting, which can lead to cross-forum flaming.

Third, this thread is closed.
