Benchmade Triage Clip compatibility

I may be having a Benchmade Triage 915 coming my way soon and at first glance really like everything that comes with it
except for the pocket clip. Is this the same pocket clip that was used on the Rukus line of knives?
If so I heard and know from experience that this certain type of clip is very weak and does a very poor job of holding the knife
in the pocket securely.

Does anyone know if the standard Benchmade clip is compatible with the Triage? Or any other clip that will fit the Triage?

Also if you have any other opinions or first hand experience with the Triage itself I'd love to hear them. Always like reading up
on a knife that I have on the way. Pics wouldn't hurt either :)

My experience with this clip is the same as yours, it's even worse on the Adamas. The regular clip will work, no spot for a middle screw though. I keep meaning to get a regular clip for mine but I haven't yet.

Right on. That's good news. I have a few extra clips on hand somewhere around here. I guess if the regular '3 hole' clips works than the low ride Contego clip should also work. That might look good
on the Triage.
I"ve also seen those carbon fiber clipos around on some griptilians and other Benchmades. Does anyone know who makes those?

The regular BM clips will NOT fit on these. The hole pattern is too wide.

The regular clips will NOT fit on an Axis Stryker, so I'm going to say no on this, too.

Anyone else have these knives in front of them that can confirm they are not compatible? Is there a mod that will make it work?

This is a really old argument. Yes these clips, in design, are the same as used on the old Rukus models and the hole layout will not allow a standard three hole clip placement. Over time many of us have felt they (Benchmade) should have standardized, so any clip would fit any of the models. A solution would be to take some fine grit paper to the backside, say 320 or so, to give the clip some bite (but not too much) so they stay put.

I've also heard that Benchmade made a heavy-duty (stronger) version of these two hole clips in response to complaints, but don't know it that's true. If it Is, we could request a freebie or two.

If I end up with a Triage or a 909/904 I will end up drilling and tapping two more holes so that I can use regular clips on these knives. Man those factory low ride two-hole clips suck.

These are not the same as the 2 hole Rukus clips tho. Clip design is mostly the same except for the hole placement. The Rukus they lay on top of each other.
The Triage there side by side. Just by looking at the hole placement on the Triage it looks like a standard Benchmade 3 hole clip would fit but I can't be for sure
without having it in front of me.

jkarp, cevtv, and I are all sure. They don't fit. I will bet $5000 that they don't fit if that makes you feel any better.

...and yet while I agree the clips for the Rukus are different even from the one pictured on the Triage, the same problems exist with thin and too flexible steel used.

Yes. IF BM is going to change the clip they need to not cheap out on the steel and make them as thick as they used to. I've noticed that even the regular 3 hole clips have gotten thinner. They are cheaping out on stuff.

The 909 has that clip and mine had weak retention from the factory. I bent the clip in and sanded down the G10. The retention is much improved; I'm not concerned about losing it from pocket anymore. Not sure why it was set up so weak but I'm guessing it was due to sharpness of the G10 and how bad it would wreck pockets.

Short and sweet (longer post timed out my login):

I just bought a 550 (Griptilian), 915 Triage, and 9170 Auto Triage. The 915 two-screw clip screw locations are wider than on the Griptilian. Reading above about a possibly beefier clip for the 915, I am going to ask Benchmade about getting one in an e-mail.

The 9170 Auto Triage I have does have the same spacing between the two outer screws of the Griptilian, so they can be swapped. The Auto Triage screws are shorter, so keep track of which screws you put in each knife. The 9170 clip is about halfway between the two others in apparent sturdiness; more similar to the 550 clip than the 915. I'm giving the 9170 clip a try on the 550 to see how it works for me. I suspect I won't care for the 550 clip on the 9170, but it does appear to be the sturdiest arrangement of the bunch, and the 9170 is a heavy knife (at least to me).

I actually really like the design of the low ride clip on the Triage and axis Stryker. It just needs to be slightly thicker/beefier and it would be perfect.

I have no retention problems with the clip on my 908 but I do wish BM had used the Contego style deep carry clip instead. It's my favorite clip and I use it on my 710, 530, 531, etc.
