I am going to be buying a Benchmade TSEK or the AFCK with the thumb studs and it's the GIN 1 steel half serrrated and it's a first production 831/1000 and the blade is in perfect shape and and the only thing wrong with it is the little circle on the clip side are kinda worn and the one on the non clip side it's just bare.

I liked the design of the TSEK, but the choice of metal probably didn't help sales IMO.

GIN-1 is the liner-lock, correct? Full-size (approx. 4-inch blade) or small?

I'm thinking $60-80 for a mini and add $15 for a full size would be top-dollar.

Not sure, though, since I haven't seen these for sale very often (scarcity is not value).

These TSEK knives never seemed to get the following among users that the AFCK has acquired.

Note that first production and such Benchmade knives rarely carry a higher value unless the production was down in the 250 unit or less range. Even at 250 units, if there was a regular production run, value may not be greater.

I'd personally find it difficult to spend more than $60 for an example that wasn't LNIB, with box. Well, maybe from an actual store, but I would expect mark-down from the apparently original price of approximately $90.

But that is just me since I'd look at it as a user only. I'm sure others disagree.

I think the TSEK the blade design is better for everyday use.

As I noted above, I do think the choice of a steel that is more outdoor use friendly (rust resistance) is what hurt the knife's popularity.

Benchmade should have used a "premium" steel as with the AFCK.

Guess what I'm asking is what do you think that particular knife is worth?

personal opinion, all of my knives are worth what i paid for them.

what do you think that knife is worth, you will be the one using it

I am buying it for $40 along with a Cold Steel Japanese made El Hombre plain edge for $30 and a couple of others I wont mention right now.

you are correct.

even BM prototypes usually arent worth a premium over a std one, unless the proto is a lot different than the production, like say a 710 proto with the ano alum handles vs the production G10, when i 1st started fooling with knives i got a BM stryker proto, thought i really had something, until i tried to sell it anyway lol, was worth the same as a std stryker.

as far as the TSEK goes i prefer the std AFCK myself the studs look "funky" to me, great knives though.

I have a couple of Axis TSEK's (805) and IMO it's one of the better knife designs. That drop point blade shape goes so well with the AFCK handle. Too bad it was DQ'd. I also noticed that the omega springs on it look thicker/more robust than the springs on my other Axis knives, including my three 710's.
