Hello everyone,as a knife user I am a fan of Sanrenmu knives for their good quality, decent steel (8Cr13MoV and 8Cr14MoV) and more importantly their good value,

recently I came across a Sanrenmu 962 for $20.00 online and a Benchmade Vex for $40.00 online and they seem very similar in design and materials,

I know Sanrenmu makes the Spyderco Tenacious,CRKT Drifter and other Chinese knives from popular western brands including Benchmade so I'm sure they made the Vex,

I was curious if I could get advice from people who own both and maybe see some pictures of them side by side? Thanks for your time.

Go with the real deal. The Benchmade comes with a lifetime warranty and the Lifesharp service. The SMR is a knockoff. A quality knockoff, perhaps (maybe, maybe not), but you get all the peace of mind that buying a knockoff entails (none).

I'm looking for a user so a warranty isn't necessary for me,do you have experience with both knives? I'm leaning towards the Vex strictly for the blade coating to prevent rust but I'm still deciding.

Warranty matters, even as a "user", unless you're grossly abusing the knife. If there's an issue with the BM, they'll take care of it. If there's an issue with the SMR, don't count on it. A cheap knife that you have to buy more than twice or 3 times to find a "good" one isnt' a bargain anymore. I don't have experience with either knife, or SMR at all, but I own and have owned many Benchmades. Unless you're diving in the ocean with your knife or leaving it stabbed inside an orange overnight, you don't have to worry about rust prevention without coating with the steels in question.

Objectively, I'm against SMR because they're an unscrupulous Chinese company that'll knock off any knife they can. They may manufacture quality knives for companies like Spyderco and Benchmade, but they also make knockoffs, even of the companies they make knives for. Whether or not these knives are quality or not is irrelevant to me, as I won't buy from such a company, but others might, and that doesn't disqualify them as quality knives. But they still are what they are, and morals aside, you're left with a cheaper knife with no warranty or backing, or you're left with a more expensive knife with the full backing and warranty support of an American company that'll take care of your problems, should they arrive.

You make a great argument but I tend to leave the politics out of it,I don't mind if a company adapts a design from other companies or designers as long as they don't claim to be from a company or make that they are not,the Benchmade Vex has been discontinued so even if it does break Benchmade would only offer me a knife of equal value if I'm not mistaken and that is excellent but I use alot of my knives very hard and I don't think Benchmade's warranty would cover it anyhow,as for rust resistance I always prefer coating because alot of my 8Cr13MoV blades from various manufacturers have rusted on me,another knife that just entered my options is the H&K Solidat from Benchmade as it's also similar in design with a superior steel (N680)
