The Sanrenmu 962 is a decent knife, the blade is 8Cr13MoV which is decent BUT the grind is poor,it's flat ground from mid spine :thumbdn:,

I think that a mid spine flat ground blades edge is too abrupt and can't get as sharp as a hollow ground or FFG blade, the handle is Micarta which is nice even though it doesn't provide any traction.

The blade shape is identical to the Vex,it's an organic drop point but unlike the Vex it's satin finished, the Sanrenmu 962 has solid lock up and fast deployment speed

The Sanrenmu 962 had skeletonized stainless steel liners and weighs 4.3 ounces (if that's important to you),features an AXIS style lock which is obviously stolen from Benchmade but that being said it's still a strong lock.

The Sanrenmu 962 has a right hand tip up carry clip only, non functional jimping and is a roughly $15.00-$25.00 knife

The Benchmade Vex is also a decent knife,it has 8Cr14MoV steel which is also decent and it's actually a little better than the 8Cr13MoV the Sanrenmu 962 uses and the grind is better,

The Benchmade has a nearly FFG blade which I was able to get razor sharp, unlike the Sanrenmu which gives me some trouble putting that razor sharp edge on,the Benchmade has G10 handles which provide slightly better traction than the Sanrenmu,

The blade is the same shape as the Sanrenmu,it's that nice organic drop point blade but it's BP titanium nitride coated for rust resistance, just like the Sanrenmu it comes out fast and locks up solid ,

The Benchmade has a liner lock which is obviously weaker than the AXIS lock but it's
adequate for EDC,it weighs 4.6 ounces and the liners are non skeletonized, the Benchmade has an ambidextrous tip down carry clip, non functional jimping and is roughly a $40.00-$60.00 knife now,

YOU be the judge on the winner.

i think im gunna go with the BM Vex, while i do like SRM, i am not a fan of bulky knives, weight is not a problem, and i do prefer an axis lock to a liner but even with all that the main point to me is that the blade functions the way i want it to. and like you, i prefer a higher grind if its going to be flat ground.

Look at the bottom of the page. It lists Spyderco, as well as Benchmade as a couple of its OEM's.

many high-profile folding knives like Spyderxx Byrds, Spyderxx Persistence, SpyderxxTenacious, as well as Benchmaxx Vex, Benchmaxx Pikas

Yes they don't list the full name, but Sal has in the past said that they are one of their overseas manufactures for Spyderco.

Neither really do much for me as far as looks are concerned , although I'm sure they would both do the job in a pinch.

What is Born and Horn ?

Beta,
Thanks for the photos.
I note that the 962 is yet another SRM model that requires a special tool to adjust the pivot, a tool which SRM doesn't include.
Why is a mystery.

My Enlan EL-02bs have the same problem.
(I won't be making my own tool from a nail, as one handy poster on another thread helpfully suggested.)

It's a popular type of pivot for whatever reason. I've seen a couple people in the Knifemakers FS forum--aland and trix2004 for instance--with the same type. The tool to open them is about $1.50 on knifekits.

kreole,
Got a link to that tool?
Do you know that it's the right one?
Some of those pivot screws look the same while having a different number of holes.
Thanks.
