I am thinking about getting a Benchmade Vex for my daughter to replace the CRKT M-16 Mil that she misplaced (thats lost). Any opinions on this knife or another similiar blade in this price range. She does not have a strong grip so many lockbacks and framelocks are not really an option.

Thanks,

It is a good size liner lock. I like it a s self defense carry. Quick to open, nice thick stout blade. Comes very sharp and is easy to resharpen. Nice g10 handles. Good price. Hard to beat.

It's an excellent bang for the buck knife and my favorite current production liner-lock. Has fantastic edge geometry and I love the handle. That handle is love/hate for many people though.

I convexed the edge on mine which improved it's edge-holding somewhat.

Good knife for the price and considering it's made in China. It's easy to get a good edge on it too. Good lock up. Might seem a little bulky and heavy for some people though. Another folder you should take a look at is the Spyderco Tenacious. Very good quality for an overseas (China) product. And it runs for about $32 bucks. I just placed an order for one over the weekend. Check out the reviews in this forum under Spyderco.

What he said!

Go with Spyderco, the company that started the HOLE (pun intended) thing!

A very nice knife for the $$$ with suprisingly good fit and finish.

Quite big in the hand though, much thicker than the M16.

Another knife in this price range would be the new Spyderco Tenacious. Also Chinese made, also a G10 handled linerlock and also very competatively priced.

Hope that helps.

the Vex is a great knife. the crowned spine ... luverly.
the coating is great, works like teflon from a nonsticking pan. very nice

as mentioned, its not a small knife, not as slender as the CRKT M16
might have to sand down the edges of the G10 scales abit, mine where edgy.
quite a heavy lock also.

I'd go tenacious. It's lighter, has a 4 way clip (does the vex? I don't have one in fron of me) and, best of all, it has a full flat ground blade, which makes it pretty damn awsome.

If your going benchmade for the daughter, I'd go with a 530s. 1.7 oz, super thin, extrmley good slicing 3 1/4 inch blade, can be worn discretley in practicaly anything.
