anything bad about this knife. i like it and i wanna buy it but i dont know how good it is. thanks

Most people here seem to prefer the similar Spyderco Tenacious, but I haven't handled the BM so can't offer an opinion of my own. Both companies generally put out high quality products.

For around $40 you get G-10 scales, a very decent 8cr14 blade, and overall well-made knife. The BP coating on the blade and the 420j liners holds up pretty well and looks good. It's made over in China but is worth than it goes for - and is backed up by Benchmade's excellent warranty.

Best idea: find a local BM dealer and see one for yourself to see if you like it.

Built like a tank. Really solid knife. Feels pretty good in the hand. Unbelievable quality for the price.

It's a great knife, but a little on the clunky and heavy side. Thats my only "problem" with it.

The Spyderco tenacious is a comparable knife. Hell, they're affordable enough for you to buy em' both.

The standard Benchmade Vex is comparable to the the Spyderco Tenacious in build quality, but not in functionality.

When you open the Vex with the hole in the blade (which they seem to have borrowed from Spyderco) you don't have a free range of motion as your thumb will get into contact with the upper left part of the handle.
There isn't enough room for the hole to clear the handle so to speak.

With the Spyderco Tenacious the hole has a free range of motion so the knife is much easier to open.

The Benchmade Vex Tanto however has a double thumbstud instead instead of a hole and this model functions perfectly.

Yeah, go with the Tanto. Mine is still going strong after a year. The only complaint of mine is that the pocket clip screws work loose. So get want, but get some Loc-Tite.

Either is nice but I personally prefer the Tenacious, as the handle of the vex is just a bit too bulky for me. Great once it's in hand, but a pain in the pocket.

Don't go China, go USA!!! You could spend a LITTLE more and get a FS Griptilian (550HG) or Mini (555HG). You could pend like $5 more and get a Spyderco Native at Wally World. You could get a Kershaw Blur. Do us all a favor, and consider USA made as an important "Feature."

I considered the blade too thin compared to the bulky handle so I sold mine although the quality was decent.

a friend of mine let me test drive his Tanto VEX and i actually quite liked it its definitely for someone with larger hands like myself some may think its bulky but i love the feel of it personally as soon as i have some spare money layin around i think ill pick one up

cheers!

I've had a Vex for about a year now. Nice solid knife. Like most things about it except Made in China. My first and last China knife.

I picked one of these up in a trade recently and here's my initial impressions compared to my Tenacious:

-Noticeably heavier
-Opening the knife isn't as easy. As other members have already described when opening the Vex the hole goes too close to the handle. The Tenacious is superior in this respect
-Tip down only (Right or left hand though)
-Ergos are good except the corner on the top rear end of the handle is uncomfortable. The design of the Tenacious also puts the blade at a better angle
-Blade is nice and thin. Good geometry, though the edge bevel is a bit obtuse like pretty much every factory knife
-Opening is smooth, lock feels solid with no play, good F&F in general

It's a good knife but I see no reason so far to buy one over a Tenacious unless you feel the ergos and blade shape work better for you. The latter has 4 way clip mounting, better ergos, is lighter, is easier to open and close and isn't as thick as the Vex.
