I realize there are laws regarding autos and probably bali-songs that cause problems with warranty work, blade exchanges, and life sharp across state lines....However I live in Oregon how would a warranty claim work if say I had issues with an Infidel or Morpho 51?

It's not a problem if you live in Oregon because we can legally own and carry Autos.

What about a state like California? Technically you can own one in your home, but cannot carry, buy, sell, or loan a auto with a blade length over 1.9". What if I sent in a auto with a blade of over 1.9" for warranty work?

This is all in the paperwork that should have come with the knife, but if you send it in to them directly they will not fix or return it to you directly unless you are active duty military or a LEO/fire/EMS. Even if it is a CA legal knife, they still won't return it to you because it is against federal law to ship an auto or balisong across state lines to an individual except in rare circumstances.

The best way to deal with the warranty situation if you are not a person exempted from federal restrictions is to find a local store that is a dealer for Benchmade (or whatever brand it is) and approach them about sending it in and getting it back for you. It is legal for a dealer to do this.

Often times, the best way to find a dealer who trades in autos is to look for one near a military base, the one I have confirmed near me to be willing to do warranty returns is located very close to an Air Force base.

Thanks...I was hoping that's how it worked...

I just want to make it clear right now that none of my Benchmades have failed in any way...just asking for future reference...I use some of my knives in less than pristine conditions...lots of sawdust at the sawmill and things to be cut..

Good advice thanks.

I had a 15 year old 9050 AFO I sent in this year and only because it had a chip I couldn't sharpen out. I sent it in for "refurb and tune up" as well as sharpen through a dealer, they told me to put that on there and when it came back it had been cleaned up pretty good, looked like they replaced one screw that was in a section the knife was dinged up and probably gave them an issue getting out. and sharpened decently enough. This thing had dirt in it from Afghanistan and Iraq still has been dropped and beat up there is no black left wherever it had been used to do things(they can't fix that) and I had no issues. I am military though and I sent through a dealer, but they told me if I were a civilian in a legal status to own one it can be sent from a dealer. Where the big problems happen is the federal shipping laws across state lines. Like others said you could either take it to a dealer and have them ship it or just call/email benchmade being you are in their state.
