I was sharpening my BM 940 yesterday and slipped.:eek:I put a scratch in the blade from the edge to the spine. Has this ever happened to you? If so did you send it in? How was the service? How much did it cost?

thanks

Its a scratch, get over it. It will probably cost quite a bit to get it removed. Id say at least 20 dollars plus shipping. Give them a call and see what they say.

Really though, if you are going to use your knife, just use it. The more scratches, the more memories your knife will have

you might try a very small amount of flitz and extra fine steel wool and extremely light pressure...I have had success with bringing out some scratches if not too deep,,,

but like Thalestin says,,,,"It will probably cost quite a bit to get it removed".
,,,, It is a tool,,,,use it and enjoy it.

Didn't someone else do this with a 940 and bought a new blade?

Everyone told him: it's a freakin knife, not gold jewelry.

unfortunately normal wear and tear and any coating if present are not covered under warranty.

Its a knife, use it and be happy.

As has been said, a warranty is there in case something goes wrong with a product that wasn't supposed to and is some type of failure.

You scratching the blade has nothing to do with a warranty claim. If you send it in they might refinish it for you for a fee. Or you could pay to have a new blade. If they have them available a satin blade is $25 and a black blade is $35. Seems pretty expensive just because of a scratch. Use the knife like it was made to be used and put some more scratches on it. It will give it character and one day you might look back at all the scratches and remember all the good times you had while using your knife.

Blade replacement is usually 20 bucks. But thats mostly for tip breakage and stuff. So unless you were to break your tip off, I'd use the knife... But i'm not you, so do what you want. You can probably buy a blade.

You were sharpening the knife so you planned to use it right???

I read it as if the OP was wanting BM warranty service to either remove the scratch (refinish) or replace the blade under warranty.

I understood the question, it was my sarcastic take on why would anybody consider scratching their knife a valid claim for warranty work.

Just use the knife. It is a tool. It will get some character marks and then you know it is yours!

Thanks for the replies. At the time I had JUST purchased the knife, so it was kind of a stupid move on my part. (I wasn't sure what the warranty had covered) I use the knife pretty much every day now and I don't worry about it anymore.
