Replacement blades are way cheaper than new knives. The last one I bought was $25, about 6 mos ago.

Unless the tip just spontaneously broke off or something (i.e., wasn't being pried with or otherwise abused), it won't be covered/replaced at no charge under BM's warranty. But as already mentioned, check with them about whether you can buy a replacement blade.

Do you buy the blades from benchmade?

I sent the knife to Benchmade and they did all the work. I received my knife back looking just like new. They even re-sharpened the new blade at my request, as sometimes the new blades I get from them aren't as sharp as I would like.

Yeah, you can send it in and for $25 they will replace the blade. Then use the savings to buy yourself and your dad a widgy pry bar to save your knife from abuse.
