Benchmade: Which Finish?

BC1 = Boron Carbide coating.
It should be much more durable than the BM's Black Teflon coating.
Satin blades has their disadvantage because they can still trap moisture and can cause rust.

BC1 is tough, tough, tough, tough, tough! It won't protect against rust by itself.

BT2 scratches when it rubs on the liners, which it will. It scratches against the change in your pocket. It scratches if you look at it funny. It is supposed to protect against rust even when it is scratched off, so why make it black at all?

boron carbide is suppose to be tough but imo any kind of coating comes off eventually, i think satin is the best, had hell you can polish it when your bored at work!

I don't like the look of BC1 and the B2 is just ugly after a while as metioned above... Go Satin :cool:

Get it coated man. Not only is the black way cool but it looks :eek: even better as time passes. IMHO all the scratches give the knife that tough look of a well used tool. :)

Hi Skunkabilly,

It depends. I know that Benchmade is using 440C now, ehich is pretty stain resistant. So, you don't really need any coating for the blade.

If you want the blade coated, then I would suggest Borron Carbide. It lasts long, trust me !!! The hardness of the coating is 92 (knife is usually at 58-62). You can put the knife in your pocket along with keys, coins and other metal object, walk/jump/run all day, and the coating won't even scratch. Beside, it looks better than BT.

That's what I do with my black and tan William Henry (lancet / T10) every day for the past 6 months. The blade is as clean as it can get.

Another vote for BC1. Or, get BC1 over satin! That way you get a nice polished finish, and a cool scratch-resistant color. I had a Limited Edition 941 BC1 with red handles that was just beautiful! Kind of wish I hadn't traded it...
