Yup, thats correct, a high quality balisong that you can spar with without killing your partner:

It was slipped into a thread about the new 49-SPL, it's the first post made by BMST. Yes, it's a good idea since you can now train in combat with almost the exact knife you might normally carry and get the feel for it. It will also help learn the ariels without ventilating your hands, back, nexk, feet, etc.

Lets just see if the prices are any lower because I don't think I'd want to pay full price for a knife that can't be used to cut anything.

Ill bet it will look like a Bali-Butterknife... ha ha
I think it would be great to have a trainer, but I sure would not want to pay full price. Most likely ill stick with tape:)

I've thought up numerous different practice-bali designs, but never really went to have them made. I wonder if they'll make some like what I've thought up???

Wow, this is really exciting news. Allthough i doubt i'll get one, BM is making an outstanding effort to give us almost everything we ask for...up next must be a new 3" model?!?!

Maybe the blades could be made like a ruber spatula...

Clearish (or safety orange:D ) rubber over a sturdier plastic core. Pyrex makes one that is heat resistant, is quite bendy, but snaps back to the original position. Might be a good idea, no?

Come to think of it, a spatula-bali would be very helpful in making my rosemary-sherry cream sauce...:p

I'd like a trainer so I could flip without making my gf nervous...
The other day I dropped it as she was walking by... it was kinda close to her feet... damn she was angry... 8-)

Well, I bet they will be full priced, or at least very close to it. After all, there shouldn't be much of a difference in materials and manufacturing processes, so they can't be much cheaper.
Still sounds like a good idea for combatives training with a partner, but not all-out sparring - they'd still be too dangerous for that.

I hope our deep belly bowie is next, then many other bladestyles. Sorry I just don't feel like naming all of them.

Hopefully, they will anodize the handles red. That way, I won't have to go through the whole, "Are sure that's the right knife" flap each time.

Personally, I'm delighted that BM had realized the value of trainers and is now making several of them.

I couldn't agree more. Benchmade and Spyderco ought to be commended for offering us training versions of their knives.
