Benchmade wins Shooting Industry Award for the 4th Year!

Just received this in an email from my contact at Benchmade:

<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">
BENCHMADE WINS SHOOTING INDUSTRY KNIFE OF THE YEAR 4TH YEAR IN A ROW!!!!

Benchmade is proud to announce that the MODEL 690 by Allen Elishewitz has won the coveted Shooting Industry Academy of Excellence Knife of the Year for 2001. It is the fourth consecutive year Benchmade has won this honor.

This tribute has been offered since 1998 and Benchmade Knife Company has won every year against tremendous competition.
1998-Model 910 Stryker-Elishewitz
1999-Model 710 Axis- McHenry & Williams
2000-Model 720 Axis-Pardue
2001-Model 690-Elishewitz

While there are many awards out there, this one is particularly significant to us due to the fact that it is voted on by our peers. The leaders in the shooting industry choose the winners in the 12 categories. For example, Benchmade may have two votes per category. We cannot vote on the category that we are entered in but do have say in for example, the rifle of the year.
This keeps the voting honest as it is not about advertising dollars, personalities, or who knows who. It is an opinion from the various manufactures, writers, dealers and distributors in the shooting industry based on design, innovation and service within the shooting sports.

Please take a look at www.shootingindustry.com for a complete listing of the winners.

All of us here at Benchmade want to thank those of you who keep pressing us to come up with the best knife possible.
Year after year after year after year.....

Congrats guys!!

And some people seem to think Benchmade is going downhill.....

Have you noticed that time flies like the wind, but fruit flies like bananas ?

Congrats Benchmade.

Seems to me they're going uphill really fast, and that's what's producing the problems. They seem to be producing a greater variety of products and the problems they had previously are coming up in proportion to their expansion. I still buy them, of course, because any problems I've had with my knives are outweighed by the fact that they're some of the best darn things I own.

Oh, Boy! My 690 feels suddenly even better in my pocket.

unbelievable!

This totally blows my mind. Out of all (really any) competition, BENCHMADE won an award? I have yet to see a BM made in the last few years (not including pre prod models) that was even worth the materials it was made of. I think Benchmade and other companies that trash the earth's resources by making disposable junk should be imprisoned! What is the world coming to? Do you people REALLY think that BM's are good, or even acceptable?

This just goes to show that even a good 'ol fashioned knife competition might be corrupt! I'm not saying that people are DEFINATELY lying, but there HAS to be something going on, here.

IF... and I mean IF...
IF
IF
IF
IF someone REALLY looked at the Elishewitz BM and thought is was REALLY GOOD, then Elishewitz must have made it himself, and YOU CAN BET that if you order one on the net there is a GOOD chance that you'll recieve junk!

Sorry, folks crying in your beer. This is a fact. If you don't think so, YER LYING TO YERSELF! ...just to talk yourself into believing that you didd'nt WASTE yer $100!

I'n NOT being a troll! I don't care WHO gets their panties in a twist. I'd just really like folks to take a serious reality check on the QC of objects entering their lives.

...chuckling....

archiblue,

First of all...I don't lie, not even to myself.

Second - Yes, many people do think that BM makes an acceptable product, some even think it's a good product.

Third - What does this mean? - "I think Benchmade and other companies that trash the earth's resources by making disposable junk should be imprisoned!" Corporate entities should be imprisoned?

As to your trollishness - I am reminded of the two guys that happened upon a turd. They look at it, sniff it and then taste it... finally they agree, "It's a turd! Glad we didn't step in it!" It's only their opinion though, they could be wrong.

By the way, 'my panties are in a twist' because, like VG, I like them that way.

Have a nice day,

Even though I have so much experience in organized debate, I'm still sometimes amazed at how narrow some people can be. There's obviously many people on this board and on this planet who DO think Benchmade makes a quality product, who DO know about the problems with some of their products, and who STILL buy them. To attack those who like the product given the fact that many, if not most, are experienced knife users, and say they are fooling themselves for saying they like the product is an assertion that simply cannot be backed up. Could it be possible that some people have had a different experience with the Benchmade products?

I can't presume to know, but the lack of critical thinking, and the emotional and repetitive nature of your post, seems to indicate you're the only one here "Crying in your beer". I'm sorry if you've had bad experience with Benchmade, but your obloquy can only damage your reputation, and unless you can prove everyone's experience with Benchmade, or expectations of Benchmade, are the same as yours, then you're just being childish.

I've had my share of problems with Benchmade QC, but each knife I've bought has been well worth the money I've spent on it(them). If they had not been, I would stop buying Benchmade.

QC aside (and they do have a QC problem but I've had QC problems with MT, MOD and some others recently as well), if you get a good 710 or 705 they are great knives.

I've pared back buying Benchmades because of the QC but if they came out with more models that appealed to me I would definately buy more, just keep sending them back until your dealer sends you a good one.

I'm not sure I agree with the award because I think there are better manufacturers out there but I also love tools and only own one DeWalt because of poor past experience, but who gets all the press in the tool market? DeWalt.

Any of you computer guys out there would know that the best product does not always win, look at Microsoft. (not a dig on MS, I'm and MCSE so I like, and make a living from their products)

It all boils down to marketing IMHO.

BTW, nothing grates at me more than people who argue their point based on un-substantiated emotional fluff.

archieblue,
Please answer this honestly. Are you a recent graduate of the Dale Carnegie School of How to Win Friends and Influence People? It's just that once again, I am dazzled by your tact and diplomacy.

I am not a big BM fan but if you (archieblue) have issues with their QC then email them and tell them. Send them forum links about their bad QC. Then BM will do something in the future about it.

I don't buy BM because their folders are too small. I prefer mega folders. I have handled many BM and most have good QC and a small few have QC problems.

Well...

I can't believe that Benchmade won ANYTHING! IT HAS TO BE that they pay SPECIAL attention to a product that goes into such a competition. THAT pisses me off. It's a mis-representation of their product.

IT'S A LIE!!!

I REALIZE that there are good BM's out there. I also realize that this forum prolly wouldnt even be here if BM had never come about.... There a big name and they used to be damn good company. There a big part of a big craze... I assume that the heart behind the name either died or is so rich that they are swimming somewhere in a sea of Margarita's... That's the ol' green brainwash to you and me... Gotta run..

BTW... hey lifter... good to see ya!

I was all set to post a reply to Archieblue, but I decided not to waste my time, or valuable oxygen on him.

Some people just don't have a clue.

Mike

Archieblue, I have 2 old discontinued BM (CQC7 975 and an auto tanto) and I have handled many of the new BMs. The new ones are in many ways superior. Remember the old ones don't have the Axis lock and the 750's frame lock.

Archieblue, you said the following: "I think Benchmade and other companies that trash the earth's resources by making disposable junk should be imprisoned!"

Did you think before you made that comment? I don't think so. The computer you used to post your comment about BM trashing the earth's resources, is in itself desposable junk. The computer you type on is made from resources from the earth: plastics, glass, metals all come from the earth. Your computer will be out dated in the near future and will go into a landfill destroying the earth.

Think before you post.

Amazing ! I thought that we only had 1 BB (Benchmade Basher) on this forum! I'm sure that archieblue and The General will be very happy together!

I plan on getting them matching Benchmades for their wedding gift.

Fellas,
Let's keep this focused on the topic at hand. If this bashing keeps up, I'll have to close this thread and suffer the slings and arrows of unhappy forumites
