Benchmade vs ? lets say Sog. looking at some of the new sogs on line their full retail price on some are very close to same of the benchmades. If most of you are like me I am not paying full retail on any thing. I have never owned a benchmade but like the looks of the new bug out are they worth the jump ? Are they sping assist on any models ?

It seems everyone is busy watching one ball or other being thrown through one apparatus or other.
What's a Sog ?
Oh well no matter.
Spring assist . . . nope never need that in the least. If you have thumb stud flicked a Benchmade 710 or 940 you would questing the "need" for such things as well.
I just bought another Benchmade. Paid full price due to a little thing called MAP. I had no desire to chance taking on some one else's flawed ejection.
Since this present purchase was going to see immediate and long term frequent use I wanted to start fresh and new.
Totally happy. From my past experiences I recommend buying from one of the real knife stores that sponsor this forum. It's worth paying a little more (if any) from them (over used or grey market).

Both SOG and Benchmade have been in the knife/tool business for a long time. While the Bug Out isn't spring assisted, there are models in the current catalog that Are spring assisted. If you've never bought a Benchmade and won't spend much money on one, that's OK. You might want try one, many can be purchased, depending on vendor, for quite a bit cheaper than would be Benchmade's MAP pricing. Before I bought my first model, a 710HS, I owned SAK's (Swiss Army Knives) and yes SOG's, but found neither to be in the same category and /or quality. All I can say is it looks like the Bug Out is a favored winner, from what I'm hearing, and it's going for apx. $115 or so, which is a very reasonable price. You buy the knife, and it comes with a limited warranty along with superb customer service, which is one of the best programs in the business. Many of my friends here would agree with this. I hope this helps. As we say, "Try it, you might like it."

I like Sog, but I think BM generally has better materials and lock design. I still have my Paratool and Flash 1 that I picked up in the 90's. However, today I tend to prefer LM for MT's and BM for modern folding knives (although right now I'm going through a Buck phase).

Only you can decide whether the enhanced materials and designs are worth the extra $$$ for you. Most of the light duty tasks I do with the more expensive knives I could do with a $2 paring knife from the grocery store... In fact that's what I use for my salt, weed killer, and fertilizer bags.

Just a heads up, the manufacturer forums are for discussing a specific manufacturer. The "This model versus that model" discussions belongs in GKD.
