What type of sharpening system is everyone using? Grew up on whet stones, but am looking for other systems for ease of use. Any suggestions?

I'm a freehand sharpener myself. DMT diamond stones + assorted other stones.

Wicked Edge, Edge Pro, and KME are probably the big 3.

Here is a similar thread.

Personally, I like the old school way...but good luck!
Thanks gazz98. Will take a look at the links.

I just got a work sharp system and it gets some flack around here but wow is it easy. Hair popping edge on very dull knives in under 5 minutes. I'm quickly preferring it over all my rods and stones. Sharpening isn't meditative for me like some others so being able to immediately have a great edge is very convenient.

Which work sharp system are you using?

If you are just touching up a blade, the spyderco sharpmaker works well. There are also some members here that produce and sell their own systems. Do some reading in the links provided above to help determine what best suits your personal needs.

Which work sharp system are you using? Do they make a system with a strap belt?

I'm using the regular model. Its $60 vs $120 for the ken onion model. I don't have a need to sharpen anything below 20 degrees, and don't really need the variable speed so I just went the cheaper route.

And there are leather stropping belts
on amazon I have seen

You can still get the job done on stones, you'll just have to upgrade to diamond if you have blades in really hard, wear resistant steels. I steal the ceramics out of my Lansky system to touch up mine by hand(I have an unusual hatred towards clamping my blades).

I am a retired butcher some 40 years in the business. Have used industrial oil stones to powered sharpeners. I also have Spyderco flat stones as well as diamond flat stones. For the heck of it gave the The Work Sharp Guided Sharpening System (manual) a shot, as its only 59.00.

I don't get excited about things as much as I used to but, this is a fantastic rig for edc knives. If you have a minute check the video on there web site. Its a no brainer system, why even Homer or Peter from the Family Guy could use it.:p

I use a lansky 5 stone. If you want the best deal and dont mind waiting.. keep checking Amazon and sometimes the price drops very low.
