I just got my BM721 back from repairs today...broke an omega spring awhile back...it's been sharpened and repaired and looks good as new...

THEN...

While i was opening my mini-grip(BM556) the thing just felt loose...this brought back memories of how my 721 felt when it broke its spring...SURE ENOUGH THE OMEGA SPRING BROKE!!!!!!!!

How unlucky can a person get...the day he gets a repaired knife another one broke...same problem...

Benchmade has been awfully kind to me by repairing my 721 but i'm kinda embarrased to send the 556 now...it's gonna look like i'm some psycho dude who doesn't know how to use a knife...i don't abuse the knife...it's mostly just cutting paper and cardboard...

What do you think i should do?

Call them up, send the knife in with a brief note explaining exactly what you need done, and wait for it to come back.

At the worst, you'll be asked to try not leaping 12' and landing blade first onto the boxes you're opening if can help it.

Part of Benchmade's premium price pays for the premium customer service they provide.

I agree with Thombrogan on this. Angie is great to deal with, so just send it back with a note and wait for its return.

Since the Axis axle has a fixed and finite path of travel, there's nothing you can do to push that spring outside of it's intended range of motion. I suppose if you flick it hard, you'll up the rate at which those springs travel those limits, but that's not any faster than what the spring would do with a zero load.

Plus, as accomodating as they are about fulfillment, there's nothing 'awfully kind' about them meeting their own warranty obligations. If they make a promise on the box, they have to deliver.

I broke the springs on a BM Mini-Reflex and a BM Mel Pardue auto, both within about one month. I had purchased them about the same time so I think they had a bad batch of springs. I thought that I too had really bad luck. BM replaced both. No questions asked. I did have to take it back to the dealer but it was no problem and cost nothing. Great customer service.

I think i'm just gonna post it away as soon as possible...
Did you know the post office has a max. insurance of £30 on items posted to the US...i live in UK by the way...

Makes me afraid of sending my knives for repair...

I've yet to have a spring break. I wonder if BM just has bad springs from time to time. Hopefully after they are reparied the new springs will last much longer. I've been carring a 710HSSR for like 3 years as my EDC, and it gets flicked open and closed all the time. It's still going strong.

I wonder if the way I work the Axis lock itself to open and close the blade helps extend the life of the springs. Rather than just flicking the blade open with force and not releasing the lock.
