benchmade?

they're different knives for sure... I'd say mini skirmish, but I had one and it did something annoying. The lock could be further compressed when opened just by pushing on it. A sebenza would never do that (same lock system). But the lock didn't fail, so I guess it was ok.

I'm personally falling in love with Benchmade knives again. Get something with the AXIS lock. The 551 Griptilian is currently my workhorse favorite.

is the ao mechanism the same deal as on the new crkts as supposed to on the ken onions? as in th e litle black metal stick/bar that sits behind the tang at pushes it open.

The AO on an apparition is a torsion bar that fits in under the blade. It is easily removable, that is one of the cool things about that knife. Its hard to explain in words what it is, I think there are diagrams on BM's site though.

Also consider a 710 if you don't have one yet.

Notice how I said "yet"? ;)

I got the bug over the weekend & decided to splurge on this: http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=BM151P as a belated birthday gift to myself (or that was my excuse anyway). It will be my first Benchmade. I just came accross this & thought it would be an excellent little knife & relatively PC for a fixed blade. I can't seem to find my CS Master Hunter - and there is another excuse I had for picking up the BM :D

In the Apparition I handled, the AO seemed really lazy. The handles have that dreaded "cheap" feeling too, IMO. It does look pretty classy though. I can't speak for the Mini-Skirmish, but I do have it's big brother. This knife is brutally tough, and you'll see many threads lauding its workhorse ability. Oh, and it features a ripped-off Spyderhole, so that may be a consideration for you. I, myself, am a big fan and this was a deciding feature in my purchase:o , dubiousness aside.

I also have to second that 710 recommendation. It is an all-around fantastic knife that I prefer to the Skirmish by a large margin.

how about these presido, rukas and resistor. if possible put all of them, including the apparition and mini skirmish in order best to worst. but are you saying that anything with an axis lock destroys over anything without or isnt it that simple?

Those knives are all pretty comparable in quality. Until you provide more info about what specific qualities you are looking for, we can't make any sound recommendations. I'd have a hard time just arbitrarily ranking those knives.

i like them all. i love flat grinds but spyderco do those. i like the skirmish but the blade seems alot fatter than the apparition plus i like the assisted open. however i like the sound of the axis so was thinking of getting one with the axis lock on it and the ones i said are the ones my dealer carries which i like. i like alot of blade shapes. if anyone thinks that one of those knives is far superior i guess id be interested in the reasons. i also like vg10 or s30v . the skirmish has s30v . the apparaition doent but i hear 154CM is also very good but i dont have any knives with that on it. whats the deal with the mini skirmish modifyed liner lock?i found the benchmade website to be unclear in showing the lock types.

The Skirmish and Mini Skirmish are framelocks. I think Benchmade calls it a monolock.

Of the models you've mentioned my picks are the Skirmish or the Presidio. The nice thing about those two is that you have a choice of either a full size version or a smaller one.

I think the Mini-Skirmish feels awkward and clunky.
And my thumb slips off the beveled thumb-hole.

Yeah, I'd go with the mini-Skirmish. I'd probably try one though as some people have had a hard time keeping their thumb from slipping off the opening hole.
