Benchmade

I don't think you'll find too many people here bad mouthing the Grip, it's a quality folder with the fabulous axis lock, a hard working knife that will most likely outlast you and me.

I don't own a 551 style Grip myself, but the blade shape seems to me to be a decently strong utility blade. I don't like the looks of it much, but that's just my own taste. I went for a Ritter Grip, since that one's blade shape lends itself much better to slicing, what with the higher grind. So I suppose it depends on how particular your uses are, and how picky you are with your knife's performance. In my opinion, though, I think the 551 blade would make a great general-use knife.

Have both the Ritter M2 and the BM 551 154cm. The 551 holds its own and proves to be great bang for the buck. Sharp as all get out and an axis lock. Works for me! :)

I think any Benchmade Gold, Blue, or Black class knife is an excellent (no...make that outstanding) product. The differences between each model then rest on personal preferences. I like the Grip fixed-blade but my personal tastes keep me from the folder.

I think the 551 is a very good knife - quality materials, fair price, excellent fit, and very comfortable grip. My only negative comment is related to the size - a bit too bulky for comfortable pocket carry, so it should have come with a sheath.

What do you guys think about the Benchmade Griptilian 551 drop point plain blade?

Just bought the 556 (mini version) in black half serrated, so it's similar. Great knife! I'm thinking about buying something like the 551 so I can compare the mini to the full length.
