Benchmades at a gun show

Went to a pretty good sized gun show last weekend in nearby Nashville. This was the first show I've attended since I've been into knives and I was pretty disappointed. Mostly cheap "gas station" Chinese knives and probably fewer than 5 legit Benchmades for sale.

But this is what I came to post... a knife dealer with a couple of cases full of fakes and many of them bad BM fakes. As you can see, the knives an boxes had counterfeit names and logos. Does BM care about this? Is this something I should make them aware of?

If I took those photos I would send them to BM.
We can't control who makes the fakes overseas but we should not tolerate the dealers here who are willing to rip people off. Some of those are blatant counterfeits.

I guess I can understand some people falling for them if they don't keep up with the standard BM line. But the quality is pretty poor looking. At the very least they aren't asking normal BM prices for that crap.

99% will not know that they are fake. Folks like us on BFs are a small minority.

Many people do fall for it. Just saw a fake 4x balisong pop up here for sale with 2 tang pins, asking authentic price. Whether or not it was known, they were selling as real.

They may not be able to do much about it, but if it were me (benchmade) I'd app there were people out there that can spot the fakes and care enough to give a heads up. $25 sale huh? What a joke.

Notice that they don't list BM on their website, and there isn't a "cheap knock-off" section either.

Yea, I checked their website too. That is one of the reasons I posted their name and site. I guess the cheap knock-offs are "show specials". :barf:

That makes it seem ever more deliberate. Maybe the gun shows have a lower chance of customers coming back for a refund than a web address. Lame.

Thanks for posting this. I've been meaning to get to one of those shows. You saved me some time and money...

If it's too good to be true.....................

I don't know much about BM folders, but I know balisongs. A 42 for $24 just isn't going to happen anywhere, even if they didn't know what they had, they'd know it's too high quality for a $24 sale

I wouldn't take that stance on all gun shows. I'm in the pittsburgh area and I was just at a show this month. Didn't see any knock-offs, but did see plenty of the gas station junk. However, there were lots of legit benchmade and spydercos. Also a selection of emerson, strider, Chris reeve, etc. guess it just depends on where you are and who the local dealers are that attend.

I was specifically referring to the recurring one in Nashville that OP went to.

This was the first (and probably last) Bill Goodman's show I've attended. There were plenty of guns but unless you collect Case knives there wasn't much to speak of.

That guys online inventory all looks like shit... Makes you appreciate the reputable ones.

If I was the dealer posted up next to his booth, we would end up fighting by the end of the show.
" < - - - - - - - beware of fake knives on your left! "
I know if you pay for a booth, you can sell what you like, but I find it strange that people like that aren't phased out, and not accepted to sell this stuff. Especially passing it off as real.
It's already having I'll effects for the entire show. If it were my event, as soon as this was brought to my attention, they would be asked to leave and he refunded their booth cost.

But to the common idiot, " it's a show. You can get expensive stuff cheap! "
So the host of the event might just see that type of business as a positive, until he sees conversations like this.
