This should get you started.

Thanks bladechick. I've looked around online a bit and I'm not having much luck finding any availability other than the barrage. Any suggestions on where to look?

Out of what BladeChick listed I would go with the 755 MPR.

I've almost purchased one on many occasions but end up picking up a diff knife instead.

But def check out some of the YouTube reviews and ull see how awesome the knife is.

I don't like the 2nd Gen pocket clip as much as the 1st Gen but that's not a deal breaker.

The 556 Mini Grip is another great choice, nothing more needed to say about a Grip, there fantastic knives.

Go to Benchmades website: Benchmade.com

Select products

Knife Wizard

Blade material

and put in M390 and press search.

It will show you all "Currently" in production Benchmade knives with M390 steel. Only down side is it doesn't list discontinued or Limited editions but it's still useful in many ways.

Hope this helps.

Thanks pbcj. Did that, and it looks like just the barrage, shoki, and 755. 755 is great im sure, but not what im looking for. Probably like the shoki the best, though I want a bigger blade, and I'm not at all sure about the lock system on the shoki. I'll be in the states next month and hopefully have a chance to handle a few of these models. Any limited edition suggestions? Maybe a 710 of a 551?

If you can track down a limited edition Ares you won't be disappointed. It's an absolutely awesome knife.

I forgot to mention...also open to seeing what spyderco has in m390! I'm searching now, but happy to hear anyone's thoughts.

I was fortunate to get a couple dealer exclusive 710s in M390 last year and I must say this is my favourite EDC knife. Compared to Spyderco sprint runs of M390 knives, the price was pretty good, too, IMO.

Every now and then one pops up on the exchange.

Specific requirements aside, I highly recommend this knife.

I have to be careful so as not to deal spot here but many of the approved or listed dealers in the dealer section may have some of the current and recently discontinued BM M390 models. Also Spyderco models too. You just have to go threw them and check. And of course there's always that auction site but be careful. Lot of fakes too.

I think a very good piece of advice given was to keep a good eye on the exchange here. I see both Benchmade and Spyderco M390 models pop up all the time.

Best of luck!

Edited to add: You asked for suggestions and unfortunately the one's I'd highly recommend are not readily available but if you can find one, The AFCK in M390 is hands down one of the best knives I own. Also, if you can find a 710 in M390 snatch it up and quickly as you can!

Besides the 581, 586, Shoki (which has been discontinued recently I think), and 755, the other models have long since been sold out and will only be available on the secondary market, (here, ebay, Benchmadeforums.com, etc) they will also be more expensive than they were orginally.

I have a 581 I really like and can highly recommend.

As far as Spyderco, definitely check out the Southard the steel is CTS-204P which is a different steel companies name for the same steel (M390 is by Boehler, 204P is by Carpenter)

Hmm, I just ran across a knife called the spyderco catcherman! Looks ideal for my purposes as this knife is to see its use saltwater fishing from my kayak. Looks like the usn model was done in h1 too. Why is it that everything I want is discontinued?? Can these still be found new?
