Anyone else find Benchmade's jimping useless?
It's not a deal breaker but I prefer to have a place to put my thumb.
Why do they put it on if it has no purpose.?

It isn't useless but it generally isn't as effective as other brands. The Grips' jimping has average bite but the models with liner jimping on the handle aren't as effective. I believe the HK jimping has more bite than the standard BM.

My HK14205 does have better jimping than than normal BMs, but it still isn't 100%. However, it doesn't matter much to me because when I am using a lot of force to make a cut, my thumb isn't on the back of the blade or handle-- it's wrapped around my fingers to make a closed fist. For cuts that only require light to medium pressure, your thumb probably won't slip off the jimping anyway, even on a standard BM. At least mine doesn't.

I've found the H&K jimping to be well done and very useful for my cutting. The standard BM jimping I've used (Grips & minis, mostly) is only so-so. I usually cut with my thumb on top of the blade spine where the jimping is located. My thumb helps give me a little more control over the cut.

Just for comparison, Spyderco's new jimping style is quite agressive. Some like it (I do), but others complain about it being "too sharp" or "too rough". I guess you're damned if you do and damned if you don't ;).

ditto to caffeinepirate, even experienced users lose some control on heavy cuts when placing the thumb on top of blade. i.m.h.o. the closed fist gives max purchase.

I like having good jimping on all my folders. That said, I also think that BM's jimping is mostly aesthetic and does not provide enough traction.

One of the things I love about Spyderco is they have some of the most useful jimping I've seen!

lol when I first read the title of the thread "Benchmade's jimping," the exact word that first popped into my head was "useless"

In my opinion, if you need jimping, you didn't make the handle correctly.

Maybe, but I still think it adds to the grip.

Pocket carry- I don't like aggressive jimping scratching my hand when I reach in for my keys
While in hand- I like it aggressive

It's a double edged sword for me.

I prefer the term unpractical or non functional. Useless makes it seem a bit harsh.
