does anyone know why exactly, benchmade wont resharpen their own serrated blades? i couldnt sharpen a knife to save my life, so this kinda turns me off buying doubles of my bm knives in combo blades.

It's always baffled me too. They clearly have the means to do so. Sounds like you need to get a Spyderco Sharpmaker.

P.S. If you're referring to our recent trade, I wish you had told me about not being able to sharpen it, I could've done it for you before I sent it off.

Haha, I like how they make a big deal about their "Life Sharp" services when their competition does the same thing for free instead of $5.

I know Buck and Spyderco charge a nominal fee too, mostly to cover shipping back to you. Kershaw is the only one I've had personal experience with that doesn't charge anything. And I don't want to derail the thread, but Kershaw's service has the best service I've ever dealt with.

benchmade does a great sharpening/re-angle job that i don't care i have to pay 5 for s/h

but to answer your question, kershaw does it for free

Yep, Kershaw does a lot of things for free. They'll send you spare torsion bars or clips for free too. Really makes a difference for me when I'm deciding what kind of knife to buy. My current favorite knife is a Benchmade, but I really like Kershaw as a company much better, and find that Benchmade tends to sell the sizzle instead of the steak.

Because serrated blades get damaged too easy. Many simply cannot be fixed or restored and care has to be taken o no make them worse.

I'm seeing more and more request asking to send knives back to manufactures to have serated blades replaced with non-serrated blade.

Though I really like Benchmade's knives, I've got to put in my vote for Kershaw having outstanding service. I live near both factories, Benchmade has treated me well when I took knives in, but Kershaw's service has been flawless.
I'm not sure why Benchmade won't sharpen their serrations. Actually, now that I think about it, I wonder if Kershaw does. I don't think they touched up my ZT200's serrations when I took it in.

When I called BM to get my plain edged knife sharpened under their warranty, they acted like I was putting them off.

There are plenty of good knives from Emerson and Spyderco...

In an argument for dealing with your local knife shop, my old one used to send in batches of knives, so you could get any warranty and life-sharp service done without shipping either way. I had a BM get a broken tip ground out, resharpened, and a bent clip fixed at no charge whatsoever.

Yup.., pretty unrealistic to expect not to pay for shipping, and I do think Benchmade does a real nice job of sharpening, replacing screws...etc. I'm not a serrated blade fan, so that's not an issue for me personally.

Didn't know Kershaw did that stuff with no charge at all. I'm not quite sure how anyone affords that in honesty.., but it's certainly great customer service.

BM and Spyderco have always met my expectations. Though I'm a bigger fan of Spyderco products, I must say that BM service is a tad better than Spyderco.

Kershaw, however, has always far exceeded my expectations. And because of this, I find myself looking at more Kershaw products lately.
