Anybody remember these things? They had a folding blade guard that covered the edge and the bare handle had hexagonal cutouts meant to be used as a wrench in an emergency (yeah, right!). I have no idea what steel it's made out of, other than it's stainless.

I was rummaging through a drawer and found mine that I've had since around '87 or '88. The only Google hit I found was on a Japanese website (pic below). I'd thought Benchmark was out of business but maybe they're still around on the Asian market?

Anyway, I sharpened it up tonight, gonna start carrying it at work for a while.

I don't recall that particular knife but I did have a Benchmark Rolox knife back in the late 70's. (similar to the one below) Seems like I paid around 90 bucks for it which was a heck of lot for a production knife at that time. It was a great knife with killer stag but unfortunately it was stolen out of my truck. I would love to have another one (in stag) but when you can find one in good shape they go for 300-400 bucks. ouch!

Yeah, you see those on Cutting Edge once in a while, but they really command a premium price. They were definitely cool looking knives.

Those are neat. I really like some of the knives from the 80's. Brings back alot of memories. Thanks for sharing.

I had one of those Rolox knives until recently. I owned two at one time. I remember those top ones in your post too Torz. Haven't seen one of those in a good while. I don't think I'd use it.

Did you see if any show up on ebay?

Well, I had already sharpened it up once or twice back then, and since it's so basic (not like the cool rolox's) it probably has zero collector's value. I haven't checked eBay yet, but I think I will now that you mention it.

that knife was brought back by gerber when they bought out benchmark, then seemed to disappear again. i think that bear of alabama made a version of it too about 4 years ago............
