I have been thinking about a used Damascus Foray or Stryker. I've been wanting a quality Damascus (or damasteel) blade for some time and I like the Benchmade brand and axis lock.
My question for those that have owned one is simply, how is the quality vs the money spent? How do you find the action and detent. Any replies appreciated.
Thanks
Ray

I suggest you post this in the Benchmade forum. Probablyly will get more answers there.

I’ve never owned one. Mostly because I feel the knives are massively overpriced for the materials you get. Most companies a titanium linerlock with cf scales you’re looking at about 550-650$ unless it is a super desireable rare custom knife. Maybe 750$ for a damascus blade.

No titanium liners but $233 for this damascus and cf
scaled native 5.

Now let’s look at this knife. Benchmade gold class Sibert. I consider Benchmade company knives to be roughly in the same price tier as Spyderco knives so will we see a roughly comprabale increase in price?

$1.105, so essentially $300 over what I would consider reasonable for this knife. Now maybe if it was a damascus Hinderer or Hobeck $1000 would seem more reasonable to me.

This isn’t a knock against BM gold class. I have never owned one for the reason above. I am not sure if there are any quality control issues with these knives as sometimes seen on the regular BM lineup. (Though I haven’t heard much about those wc issues lately so they may be resolved)

There are no winners just losers.

Spyderco 40 yr model and many other Spyderco's are over priced. I'd say they are over priced by at least 20%, but knives like their Zoomer are even far more than that. The 40yr model with the huge "40" on the blade is ridiculous.

The Benchmade Gold Class knife you are showing is certainly over priced, and gaudy AF. The gold liners are over the top....now had they been 24k gold, I could see it a bit more, but it just looks cheap.

^i agree. But if some people like the looks of them, and have that kind of money to spend on a showpiece, why not? I’d rather a para2 or griptilian but for the rich folks out there maybe they just want something different...like jewelry, just for show

I have handled a couple of Gold Series knives and they are very nice.
The most recent Gold release is $1600 MSRP in Damascus. Beautiful knife, but worth more than a completely decked out Chris Reeve? Not to me, but maybe to the odd collector.

I’ve handled three, and each one had some kind of minor mechanical imperfection - blade play, centering issues, etc.

“Gold Class”, as far as I can tell, refers more to cosmetics than quality of the manufacturing process. You’re paying extra for (often) damascus steel, fancy inserts, and a little stamped card telling you how fancy your knife is. It’s a decoration, not a tool.

Not all Gold class are equal. The small batch runs have more attention to detail with regards to finishing, but are usually more expensive

I've handled a few but don't think they are worth the upcharge for the extra prettiness.

I dont feel they are worth the super high costs.

Some are nice, some are way overpriced. Contact me. I may have some addition info for you. :)

Thanks. That's pretty much the info I suspected, but hoped was not true.
