Hey guys it's been a while sense I've posted but I'm back now.
A friend of mine has a Benchmaster mill he needs to sell.
I know the old adage, "buy as big as you can afford" but space is a major issue in my shop/shed.
For now, all I need is something that will slot guards.
Will this do?

Yes it will do very nicely. I have one. It is actually a pretty rigid little knee mill. I am assuming it is the vertical mill and not the horizontal setup. Lots of limitations on it with it being so small ( 6" x 18" table, not much height from table to cutter, MT2 collets, etc.) but it really does a great job with the understanding that is a small benchtop mill. Pretty decent castings on it too.

You have the advantage since it is your friend to go ahead and mill a guard slot with it. Maybe check how accurate it is and how much play is in it. You can still get the bearings for it if need be. I am in no way whatsoever a machinist but it really beats the heck out of filing slots by hand.

Thanks Joe.
What would you say is a good price?

I really have no idea as to what a fair price is. I gave 800 for mine a few years ago. And then buying everything else that goes with it to be able to actually use it. I'm sure it was at least as much as the mill to buy all the accessories.

That sounds like a great deal. At the very least not hard to get your money back at that price.

I just finished mounting some cheap digital readout scales on mine, it improves the mill ten fold IMO. There's a Benchmaster group on yahoo that's pretty active too.
