I love the small exka burger, best of all knife i think !
i baught mine 2 years ago.
If you like this knife and the Grip, you NEED to try the Mini grip doug ritter...
So nice also !

I love the doug ritter mini grip. I think it would be a perfect edc and I will still get me one in the future.

The exk is a great knife. I love it for edc and the benchmade in the bush is just great for making kindling for fire etc. Both fine knives and even the exk has had its share of skinning.

I can't remember now, but does the ritter have a hollow ground blade?

Well it was another day on the farm. had to do some cutting of water pipes, wild animals bit through the pipe to get to the water. very dry season. the burger was great doing this. my spyderco delica se struggled and I couldn't get clean cuts. think its because of the saber grind. anyway. a warthog died close by so i removed and cleaned the tusks. Here is a pic showing a piece of pipe and the tusks.

this is my only benchmade. i found it at a gas station. it's obviously in a better home now...whoever owned it before took a grinder to the tip of the blade to get a tanto look and it was dirty as hell. Figures now that i said that i notice that it's due for a cleaning. It's a VERY slim knife and pretty light weight. I love it, it's the best folder i've ever owned. Holds a nice sharp edge too.

^Now that is a used benchmade. hope mine gets as much use as yours. my burger exk has 440c steel. Really is a great steel. I love 154cm, 440c and still want to try s30v etc. Will try that in my first seb, still a ling way off though. The burger exk's heat treating is really good. The closest knife I have to a seb.

that burger folder looks great!

is it a slipjoint? i looked on his website, and couldnt determine if it is a locking blade or not. and he says it is a one hand opener, but i dont see anything to make it so.

It is a liner locking folder. The liner is made of titanium. But I must admit I was not big on liners before this knife. All my liner and framelocks developed blade play within a few moths of purchase, but the burger's liner is really well made. Everything str said about a good liner applies in this folder. It breaks in at the beginning and then it stays rock solid. It also made me realise how important fit and finish is in a liner and framelock. That is why I still need to get my seb.

Anyway to answer your question more in detail here is a link to my original review. Hope it helps.

The following are the knives of my girlfriends father. He passed away during our exams at university this year. Just a small tribute to him from my part. A wise man that I wish I could have learned from more.

Any background on your girl's father's knives? Look to be in good condition....seems he took good care of them.

I have little information on all the knives but I have a bit of information on those market.

The swiss in yellow was his edc. sharpened on steel it has a lot of scratches. the tip is bent and it has seen a lot of use. As far as I know it was his edc for about 15-20 years. the knives market in red are both Solingen knives. The one with the dark handle has some detail on the blades (2 almost 3inch blades) the following is written on it."Premium Quality hammer forged" "Carl Schlieper Hammer Forged Solingen Germany" It has also been sharpened on steel (poor photo sorry.)

I know the Knife with the dark handle was originally his fathers knife. That means the knive is close to 70 years old about.

All of the knives was given as presents to him, he worked as a game ranger and all his knives are still in great working condition.

That is all I can really tell you. Hope it helped.

I have been on field trips this past 3 weeks. So here are some pictures of the Burger and some others. I keep being amazed by this knife. I used it in sea environment, river and then also the driest of the dry the kalahari. I highly recommend this knife to anyone that just wants a quality user. I am interested in the larger model, so will keep updating and do a review on that also.

Awesome knife Marthinus! Been looking at the Burger knives for a while and your review and pictures have put it on the top of my list. Some questions... Does it open as easily as with a Spyderhole? How does it compare to the small Sebenza? Do you carry it in pocket ot pouch?...comfortable?
Looking forward to getting one soon!

I found the opening very easy. Not as easy as the Spyderhole, but I dont think anything can be easier then that. It is not difficult to open the knife at all with the lip. You can also open it with some authority and it makes a sound pop.

Compared to the sebenza. Well fit and finish is obviously the sebenzas cup a tea. (just look at all the rewards). The EXK is not far behind. In the photo I show how close the tolerance is at the pivot. I used the smallest needle I have in a nave sawing kit. The tip of the needle does not go inbetween the gaps.

But when it comes to ergonomics I would call it equal, cutting performance goes to the EXK. I can compare that to something like the Spyderco Caly 3. Its just a great slicer.

The EXK carries better then the sebenza in my pocket. I think it is lighter. I carried it in the pouch that comes with the knife for about a year. I however fool around and have made a belt sheath and a pocket carry pouch for it. Here are the photos. I am still working on the pocket pouch, but I just made it for myself and depending on my mood I will either carry it on belt, pouch or just chuck it in my pocket with no worries.

I think you will be happy with the EXK. Its just a workhorse! If you have any other questions feel free to email me. Or have a look at my review in the knife review sub-forum (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=546598)
