This Lanny's Clip lock back is the first folder I've made that's been allowed out of my shop. The blade is from my first damascus billet ever, made over a year ago at my friend Jim Clow's shop in Canada. The scales are some truly excellent mesquite burl from my aunt and uncle's place in the Texas Hill Country. Bob Merz, who has been making knives longer than I've been alive, provided some significant education along the way. There are still a couple of kinks to work out in my process, but I think it's a safe bet we'll be seeing more of these come out of my shop. Let me know what y'all think.

Now that's what I'm talking about Travis! I'd put that in my pocket any day of the week.

that there's a really great looking knife

Oh wow. That's an impressive first release. I usually don't care for Damascus but that is a very nice understated one. Fits the understated burl perfectly. Not too dull, not too shiney.

The Lanny's Clip is one of my favorite patterns and this is a good example.
Nice work and thanks for sharing it.

Congratulations and thank for showing Travis!!! I like very much your damascus, as stated above i also find it understated, very tight and clean...elegant, in a word!
The lockback came out also very clean, and i like that the gap at the back of the release, near the spacer is very small
You did blend those pins didn't you? ;) Bushing or bare pivot?

Thanks for all the kind words folks. This one was fun to make, and I have a few in mind for the future. Bad news is I'm out of the damascus, so the next 3 or 4 at least will be stainless. And I just ordered a video about making autos, so who knows?

Beautiful knife. Being a native central Texan I love the mesquite burl. It has a special place in my heart after spending many summers as a youth trying to eradicate the species from our ranch. I was miserably defeated in my attempts.
